Paid off another medical bill
| Fri, 12-30-2005 - 10:00am |
I am so happy. I have paid off another medical bill!!!! 3 down - 2 to go.
I will now be able to snowflake that $25 monthly payment to my credit card (that has the highest interest of all my debt owed). I can't wait to see my debt total go down. I really am keeping my fingers crossed that nothing major happens in 2006 to throw me off my debt repayment.
Have a very happy New Year everyone, and please all keep safe.

I do love that feeling. I guess I would love it even more if I thought this $25 could go to my pocket or savings rather than pay another debt.
I often think that I am not irresponsible with my money, unexpected things happen such as medical bills. And most of us don't make tons of money. I just try to be responsible about all I owe, but I must admit I am envious of those who don't worry about money. And I supposedly by govt. statistics make decent-ish money, but everything is so expensive. My electric bill is close to $100 a month and it's just me in the condo. I am not even there in the day. I have to pay a distribution charge since I am in a condo, and that's around $30 a month on top of my bill. It's just crazy how they get money from you. I even had new windows put in to help with the costs.
My toughest part is that I pay a mortgage plus condo fees on my own, and as a female we are traditionally underpaid than men. I just don't see as many men feeling they struggle with debt the way we do.
Sorry I am off on one of my tangents. I just looked at all my bills owed and my bills are always due around the first 2 weeks of the month, and I am always left broke. I just don't understand!!!! I am already showing 'negative' in my account as so far as my chequebook is concerned. I have a line of credit, but I shouldn't need to go into that. Now I am trying to see how I can get another $600 by next week to pay the remiander of the monthly bills. I just feel that is all I do is pay bills and never enjoy anything.
I feel I am stuck in such a rut. I am envious of those who can split household expenses with others. I have GF's who make much less than me but seem to have more money because they split their household expenses with someone else. I guess that's my penalty for being a divorced woman with no alimony! LOL
How awesome!!!! Do you have a list of "debts" ? Crossing one item off your list is always a great feeling!!!!

I know that feeling. I'm a single girl too so my salary has to cover everything. Thankfully though right now I don't have any children because I can barely make ends meet now much less having someone else depend on me...then again I have around $975 a month going to debt that I've racked up including car payments and student loan bills and credit cards. Man I wish I had been smarter earlier and not run up all this debt but I wasn't.
Those numbers don't even include my utitilies or rent even. It's no wonder I can't get ahead. I just keep telling myself that once I'm out of debt that I will be a lot better off and will be able to afford those things I keep wanting. At least you have a place you own and are contributing towards your own future with the mortage payment, with rent I feel like all I'm doing to pouring money down the drain and $600 a month rent down the drain every month is not making me very happy.
I'm always broke too especially around the 1st couple of weeks of the month, I pay my car payment and most of my utilties with that check along with the minimum on my Visa and Discover Card. Let's put it this way I got paid today and after paying out all the things I need to pay this week and making a $29.22 snowflake to my Best Buy Card, I have a grand total of $15.01 left for everything else to last for two weeks. That being said, I do have money set aside for gasoline and groceries. Next check is looking even worse because I'm biting the bullet and paying off the Best Buy Card, I'll have $1.16 left over for anything extra. These two weeks are worse than usual because I have to license my car and am paying off some final straggling mail order clubs I was a member of and of course I made the decision that Best Buy would be retired this January and I'm doing what I have to to get it done. But normally I have a grand total of $78 a month left over for entertainment and such, that works out to $19.50 a week. I don't like cutting myself shorter than around $20 a week or I tend to fall off the wagon.
I will be so glad when I can get moved back in with my parents, even though it's not something I ever thought I'd do because I will have more money freed up to go to debt and hopefully will have a little bit of money left over for fun money.
Great news! Keep up the good work. I hope it won't be long before I get to post some celebratory news.
Happy snowflaking!

Hi Ladies -
Just wanted to thank you all for your kind words, and for those who opened up and let me know that I am not the only single chick struggling through debt. I don't have children either - which makes it easier.
I actually looked through my final paycheck and 25% of my salary went to all the taxes and med and you name it the govt took out of my cheque. I guess it's not too bad, but wow I hope I can get a little back.
Thanks for saying I am an inspiration Whiz. Also it's worth phoning the med companies when you are down to your last few payments and see if you can negotiate a discount for good payment. I had one med company say that I was the only person they knew who paid their bill religiously each month, and for being good they gave me a discount on the amount remaining. Every little helps.
Hi Whiz -
One of my bills I paid just $15 a month, and I called when I still had around $100 remaining just to see if their billing was the same as my records. When I spoke to the lady she offered me a 25% discount if I paid the bill in just 2 payments (instead of around the 5 I had remaining).
I took the discount and paid it off in 2 payments. I guess they knew they could trust me, since I always paid.
So when you have maybe 4/5 payments remaining - I would call then and negotiate a discount to pay off the debt. It worked for me with Sprint as well. I put them on a payment plan when I closed my account. They gave me a discount to pay it off quicker than I was planning. You just have to pay a few times on time and they will negotiate. A lot of times the rep will offer it to you.
I would say something like "If I agreed to pay off this remaining bill in fewer payments (or sooner), how much discount would you be able to give me to make that happen."
They usually will want slighty higher payments, but money saved is money saved. Plus I saved the stamp.
Don't forget also if your med/dental bills are more than 7% of your gross income they can be claimed on your taxes. Most accountants seem reluctant, but it is a tax break. I guess they never think people pay out that much. Sheesh! I am claiming mine for last year.
Hope that made sense.
