I have been in therapy for YEARS (more than I can count) and I was diagnosed with OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) My dad has it real bad but I only have a touch of it because I recognized it at 25 and have been trying to cope with it the best I can. I am also on Zoloft for panic attacks which helps tremendously. I came to terms with the fact that its a chemical imbalance. This is in no way a reason or excuse for my debting problem because the ocd has manifested itself in different areas of my life over the years. It was confirmed that there is a small part of it thats not good for me but i'm truly working on it. My dad has it soooo bad he spends and spends and he buys sneakers and t-shirts. He has MOUNTAINS of sneakers and t-shirts everywhere. My poor mom cant walk into her house in a strait path. She has emptied the house several times and it's back within a month. She has to clear a space at her table to sit and have a cup of tea and she has all but lost hope so she shuffles the s*** and begs me not to buy.
Has anyone else addressed or dealth with this problem? Has anyone had a family history that they can relate to? Let's see if we can come together and conquer this facet of the problem. . . . .Iris

No--but....
We just found out the past year or so that dh's grandma is OCD and no-one ever knew about it. She had been living in the nursing home because of a stroke. They finally decided to clean her house out and sell it. They found:
200 pairs of white underwear---1/2 still in packages.
Bags---labeled with the store on them----with bags inside bags of that specific store.
100 sweaters---all same style---different colors.
500 ballpoint pens----in the boxes----ran out of ink---labeled with the date and time of when they ran out.
We only found out because we had to research family history for my 5yo son. He has alot of issues---bipolar, high functioning autism, anxiety (OCD, etc). He is pretty young---so no compulsions yet--just obsessions. He can't take any SSRI's because of the bipolar.
My 9yo daughter is getting anxiety. Little things. While playing Yahtzee--all the dice have to be facing the same direction. She has to touch things with both hands. Some generalized anxiety. My son's psychologist said she would probably need some meds by the teen years.
I can't blame it totally on dh's family. My family has some OCD stuff---but tiny things. I have an issue with ATM and elevator buttons.(germs!!) But I overcome it and just don't think about it.
My poor kids are doomed!!!
