About how much do you guys have in just credit cards? This means---Visa, MC, etc and Home Depot, Lowes, Sears, etc. AND----personal line of credits too.

We have about $20,000---I really don't even know. I haven't gotten that far in finding all the statements yet!!

As of today, I have $5947.70 between a Mastercard and my line of credit...UGH!!!

Plus I have nearly $4K worth of new furniture credit that is due without interest in March...I'm gonna have to do a balance transfer to my Mastercard to avoid paying 29.99%...I am never doing that again.

We have 11,978.34 on a CC that is where we combined all our debt after our first six months of living here. That card sits at 2.99 for the life of the balance. I have no idea where the card is and no intention of using it.

We have right under 6,000.00 on another card. We used a convenience check to pay the second mortgage so the interest went from 8.5% (I think) to 3.99 (I know) for the life of the balance.

I don't think you are over the top. We have a wide variety of people who post here-some have paid off all their debt (way to go!), some have paid off all but mortgage, and some are just starting the climb out of debt. I actually recall a poll on this a couple of weeks ago...mmm...I think you can click more at the bottom of this discussion and you might be able to find it.

Hi, Danni. Just want to say, went on snowflake sight. Congrats on paying down your debt so fast! DH says I need to get on the ball and not use the credit card anymore. Well, they are sitting in the drawer (again). I feel I am over the top at $4300 with the Discover card. When just a few months ago, it was at $1300! Why? Spending for holidays! Putting medical bill payments on them (again). My nightmare? The mortgage! Sure, we now have a fixed rate, but it will take us 20 yrs to pay off $350K! Enough of this. Whiz.

I have one credit card at 9362 right now. My highest balance on it was $12,885.00. When we were first married, we had about 18K in credit card debt due to high medical bills. We didn't know that we could make small payments on the bills over time without penalties, so we put the full amount of the bills on credit cards. I wish I knew then what I know now.... :-D

Right now we have under $9000 on cc's both cards are 0% interest until this September and I hope to have them paid off by then.

We still do use 2 other credit cards mostly for gas and at Sam's Club, but since I finally got their balance down to 0 - whenever the new bills come in I pay them off completely first.

Lots more than I want, that's what we have, LOL!

Here's the breakdown:

Target Visa $875.00
Motley Fool Visa $1235.00
MBNA Visa $3117.00
AT&T MasterCard $8738.00

Grand total=$13,965.00

No lines of credit or anything like that.

I guess I am just feeling overwhelmed!! It doesn't sound like you guys have a whole lot. But I know most of you have been working on getting them down for awhile. I guess I see the debt as so much more. With a family of 6---the expenses are high!!

Holly,
don't get discouraged. It just takes a bunch of little steps to get to where many of us are. If we hadn't changed our thinking and taken those little steps, I know I wouldn't have gotten as far as I have.

Once you start finding snowflakes, no matter what the amount, it's like the universe says, 'Well, OK then. She's getting serious about all this,' and the next thing you know, unexpected money starts coming in from unexpected places. It's kind of cool, but I don't advise 'counting' on it!

Just hang in there. You've done one of the hardest parts, which is starting!
