Hi, LVH. Count me in, girlfriend. There is so much food, canned stuff, etc. in the house, I wouldnt have to go shopping for a month! Sooo-am cooking again at home at night, trying to avoid any fast food. Since I am trying to only eat soup at night, that is helping my weight. Doc says I need to up my calcium consumption, so yogurt is there, too. At work, I only eat salads and soup, so I will try and cut back on tea and stick with Fuze (less calories) or flavored water. I'm ready for the challenge. Bring it on! Whiz.

Hello Goddessmoon,

Even though you work from home, you could still pack a lunch every morning just like your DH. My husband is at home all day and tends to munch his way through whatever is on the top shelf of the fridge. If I want to hide something from him, I just put it in the bottom drawer. LOL

I've begun packing breakfast and snacks for work (haven't started bringing lunch yet) but I make him a sandwhich, wrap it in plastic wrap, then put a few snacks in a baggie, and a can of juice on the top shelf. While he will sometimes come back for another snack after eating the prepared stuff, I very rarely come home to find he's eaten something *else* for lunch instead.

You could do the same for yourself! Make a nice prepared lunch for yourself, or set aside a freezer baggie of soup to thaw, etc. If you prepare it when you aren't hungry for lunch yet, you'll eat less and will be able to plan for future lunches when shopping.

Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke

I am in. Actually this is one of my resolutions for this year. Stop buying lunch at work. For the first time in years, I have actually brought my lunch everyday this week. I figure just by doing this alone, I am saving between $25 - $35 a week. Yikes, looking at the numbers like that it really adds up doesn't it.

At any rate, my goal is to eat out once or twice a month instead of everyday. It would be great if I could do without all together but I'll allow myself a little wiggle room.

Good Luck with the challenge everyone.

This is a really good challenge. I've been working on my lunch habits and we've cut back quite a bit on eating out as a family- but breakfast has really been my downfall lately. Every morning I feel like I "have" to have a large diet coke and a cinnamon roll from McDonalds. It's really not a huge expense, but it does add up (& is money we could use for a snowflake) plus it's just not healthy. I used to be a fanatic about a healthy breakfast, but after baby #2, it all just went downhill. So I'm anxious to see how well I can do with this challenge. Better start finding some cinnamon roll substitutes, huh?

I love this challenge! We eat out WAY to much and my hubby eats out daily. I can't believe how much we've spent on fast food the past few months. VERY SCARY!!! I'm going to make my hubby's lunch everyday next week and make an effort to not eat out for dinner unless me and hubby are on a date. :)

I'm in -- I was just blogging about this today. Even if it's peanut butter and jelly, I have got to start packing a lunch. One thing that helps me is to prepack all of the snacks ahead of time. Then, even if I don't have a real sandwich, I've at least got something to eat.

Yes having things prepacked helps a lot. I also pack my lunch the night before because I'm too rushed in the morning.

A few other tips to help us all out. If you have a desk keep something at your desk for those days you forget. It doesn't have to be much: a can of soup or a bowl or Ramen Noodles, just something to feed you for one day. Even a bag of popcorn will do in a pinch.

For those of us soda drinkers: I've found that it is much cheaper to take in my own soda (normally a two liter per week) than to buy out of the machine at work.

I also buy large bags of chips and packs of cookies and seperate them down into zip lock bags instead of buying the prepackaged snack bags. You can do the same with yoguart and the like too if you have enough plastic wear.

And for desert I either take fresh fruit, or make brownies or cookies which costs less than the premade deserts.

And I keep plastic forks and spoons at my desk incase I forget silver ware and need it. (I learned the hard way to leave my silver ware at home...I am now missing two forks and a spoon from either myself or the cleaning crew throwing them away.)

Any body else have some money and or time saving tips for those of us signed up for the challenge?

My resolve to brown bag it is strong, brown bagged 3 times this week. My weakness is breakfast twice I stopped justifing the expense because I really felt I needed to eat (shaky, no energy) and it was only 1/2 of what I would spend on lunch and I had packed one that day. I'm going to challange myself to stock the house better with breakfasts/snacks I will actually eat in the morning and preparing lunch the night before so I will take it 4 times a week. One draw back of working 60 hrs a week is I justify eating out more because of lack of energy and lack of time to shop, with the extra $$ I make working the OT. One advantage of all the overtime is my company is good about buying dinner about 10 times a month.
