Gosh, I just balanced our checkbook & we only have $82.23 left in our account. We were short $800.00 in income last month due to a very horrible work situation between myself & my last job. I put two weeks notice in and they essentially made me leave and did not allow me to my last week there. It really hampered us. I paid the minimum on the cc but now I'm behind on the utilities too. SIGH! We have some money in our emergency fund in Ing but it'll take just as long to transfer that money over as it would to be to just wait to get paid on Friday.

DH & I have got to be very careful with our spending! I need to remind myself when something like this happens, that we need to continue to beef up our emergency fund. I also have to remind myself to look at the positive - all of my kids are healthy, we have food in the pantry & refrigerator. I have a full tank of gas & I don't NEED to buy anything.

Ivhunnie, FYI.....if you give two weeks notice and the day you give notice, they tell you to leave, your employer still has to pay you for your two weeks.

mym - I tried to argue with them about it because I did the right thing and gave them 2 weeks notice but my old boss is a very spiteful and mean person. She doesn't take it to well when ANYONE puts 2 weeks in. She wouldn't budge & subsequently, we are suffering for it now. I have a better job now and the work atmosphere is wonderful, this is just a temporary set back to make dh & I realize that we HAVE to have a back up plan...just in case.

Hi,
Too bad about your last job, but if you ever had any doubts about whether or not you should have left, that should have answered it. And really congratulations on the new job. Also, really really congratulations on being prepared to survive this with food etc on hand.

I'm sorry this happened. Were you unable to get unemployment pay from your last employer?

Good for you for thinking of the positives! The things you listed are what really matters....you've got a healthy family, food, shelter, etc. :-D

Hugs,
Pat :-D

Well...i guess i would at least look at it this way...you are out of a hostile work environment.

BTW.....I once worked for a major insurance company. My boss was a She-Devil. I gave two notice, she sent me home the same day i gave notice. HOwever, I did get paid up to my two weeks including all benefits. But I was very happy not having to stay those two weeks.

Good luck.

Hi, ILV. Hugs to you. At least it is not a negative balance. Do you have overdraft protection? A way for bank also to transfer funds from savings to checking just in case? Your situation is not without some congratulations in order----realizing the need to save for the E-fund (Yes, I need to do this, too), having food, gas, water, heat, utilities. The basics are covered. Hang in there. Whiz.
