Help! DH company is being sold!

Hi, everyone. Well, it was bound to happen. Saw the writing on the wall, so to speak. Layoffs, hiring freezes, etc. DH announced that his company is being bought out. What does that mean? Probably reapplying for job. I guess the present company will stay intact, same location, etc., but will acquire the larger company name. I am conflicted. I say he should go where his former boss is. Bigger company. Better salary, benes. DH wants to wait and see what happens. Been there before. I distrust mergers completely. Why? Because there are always layoffs, firings, with new company coming in. Sooo--it looks like I am going to have to find a second job sooner rather than later. Anyone been thru the merger mania? What things should I prepare for? DH has $$$$ in banking account this time, so we are prepared somewhat. Anything else we should be doing? Whiz.

Dh went through a buyout about 10 years ago. His company was the smaller one that was taken over. He wanted to stay with the merged company and keep his position, but he did take the time to contact former co-workers/bosses/etc to see if there were openings in their place of employment. He prepared his resume, and then tried to get a feel for whether he was going to be laid off. It ended up that we were lucky, and he wasn't.
Could your Dh contact his former boss and find out about any openings there, just in case?

Keep your chin up! This actually happened to me about 1 1/2 years ago. It was the best thing that could have happened. I thought I would be history. Especially since I work strictly from home in NC, and the purchasing company is located in CA. I just knew my job was history. However, I have much better benefits with a 401k, stock options, and they even flew my husband and I to San Francisco for their Christmas party.
I'd say, tell your husband to do a little research on the purchasing company, and just hang in there, but keep his eyes open just in case.
Good Luck!
