Somewhat OT but for moms w/young kids-

This may seem silly, but for you moms with younger kids (grade school age) how much does the toothfairy bring these days. DD has her first really loose tooth and I can't find a consensus anywhere. The dentist told me the average is about $5 to $10 per tooth, but that seems kinda high. However, when the toothfairy visited me I got a quarter and that seems too low these days. (I should say I liked it when she visited me at my grandmother's better--while I was there one time she brought me $5 :-)).

The fantastic thing is, DD has said whatever money the toothfairy does bring her, she will put in her savings account. Makes a mama proud.

TIA for any help.

Our DD is now 10. When she lost her first tooth she got $2 (one paper bill and a "special" golden dollar) *I think she still has the the golden one* After that each one has been $1.50 with the exception of one that needed to be "pulled" by the dentist. I think she got $5 for extra pain & suffering. IMHO I think $5-$10 is too much unless it's within reason of household income.

We do $1 for the first tooth. $2 for the second tooth, $3 for the 3rd tooth, etc. Only up to $5. Or maybe it was $3. We only give money up to the first 8 teeth. After that----"the tooth fairy doesn't use the others".

Aravis,

I was just wondering, when I read your post, if you have explained to your son that although he doesn't believe in Santa Claus, that other children do. The reason I ask this is that when I was about 6 years old, I did believe in Santa (wrote him letters, planned what I would leave out for him, couldn't wait to meet him at 'Breakfast with Santa', etc), and another child, who I was playing with at a neighborhood park, said, "You know there's no Santa. It's all made up. Your parents are lying to you.", and preceeded to take me to his Mom to have her, also, tell me that it was all made up. This was done shortly before Christmas, and I have to say that it kind of ruined Christmas for me. To this day, I watch my son and other children waiting to meet Santa, and I feel a little sad because I feel cheated out of that magic that I missed so much back then.

We have decided that when our son no longer believes, which could be in the next year since he's asking lots of questions, we will definitely be explaining to him that other children do believe, so he should allow them to hold onto that belief as long as they wish to.

Are you joking? Santas made up? Thanks for ruining it for me!

Just Kidding! :)

Knowing my kid, he would be knocking teeth out of his head for that kind of money.

Pat, my son is WELL AWARE that most children believe in Santa. He is close with his 6 year old cousin, who believes in Santa. My son has never spoiled his fun! Sometimes he even "pretends" that he believes in Santa!

We still watch all the traditional Christmas movies each year (Rudolph is my favorite), but he knows that these are just stories.

But, again, he would never tell another child that Santa isn't real.

Good point!

My son is still too young but I will probably do a $1. I may do more for the 1st tooth but I just don't know yet. And I just have to share reading about the santa thing...I told my neighbors when I found out. I don't think my parents warned me about others believing. Anyway, I went so far as to search their house with them to find the presents and prove it. I would hate for my son to do that so I will defenitley tell him that other

Hello,

Regarding the tooth fairy, when *I* lost a tooth, I was paid with a half dollar from the post office. I thought half dollars were cool, since they were a different size. If I had children, which I don't yet, I'd give them two half dollars. Something a little different, but definitely spendable or saveable.

Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke

My son is only 1, and is still getting his teeth, but my sister got tooth fairy money until about a year ago (she's really young). I think she got a special dollar and maybe a regular dollar for the first tooth, and then a regular dollar for each tooth after.

I got a quarter for each tooth (and i'm only 24, so it wasn't a million years ago).
