Reducing recurring expenses

I'm currently on a mission to reduce every flexible recurring expense I can...therefor this question.

My heater needed a repair--have home warranty insurance, so it was only $45 copay. While he was doing the repair, I asked him to look for ductwork leaks. This house was built in the 70's and seems very energy INefficient--my elec. and gas bills are ginormous!

Contractor suggested doing a "painted on" fiberglass seal on ductwork at a cost of $260--not coverable under the policy. He said that sealing process is common in new construction. Anybody heard of this? Sounds like if it works, I would recover that cost pretty quickly. Anybody ever do this in your home? Or am I being sold something I don't really need?

I honestly don't know. Have you done an Internet search to see what you can find? I would suggest that, especially if no one else has any experience with it on this board.

Good luck, girl!!!
