WOO HOO! Gas/Electric Bill Success!!

I just pulled up our new utility bill online. It's almost $100 less than last month!!! Yee haw!!! Last month it was $341 -- I about died!! I've made sure our heat hardly EVER goes above 63, and dh and I have stopped running our electric heater in our room at night (we bought a down featherbed with a gift certificate from my mil for Christmas). Those two things alone have obviously made a huge difference! I just had to celebrate!! :-)

On a different note, dh also had an job interview today -- his first in over 5 months! He thinks it would be a good job, but they still have more people to interview, and then come 2nd interviews, and then they're going to give the guy they're firing 2 weeks' notice. So if he gets this job, it won't be for at least a month. But he said it was just nice to have someone finally be interested again!! :-) The thought of him having a real full-time job again is almost too much to entertain; he's been off close to a year. Keep your fingers crossed for us, will you? :-)

Hi,
Wow, good luck with the job. Keeping my fingers crossed!! And really congratulations for getting your bill down -- our just went way up. I didn't realize that appliances draw power when they are not used -- but it seems reasonable that they are -- they have little lights on -- even the computer power strip! I think I'll unplug them all!!

HI, Amy. :) This is SUCH good news! Wow, a $100 relief in gas bills? You've given me some ideas to use. Am glad your DH got an interview. This should really help boost his spirits, and hopefully, income. Way to go! Whiz.

Wow that's a difference! We spent last weekend winterizing (okay, by "we" I mean hubby!). Our back door was drafty, and we recently realized it was an interior door!! So we bought a new exterior door and installed it. Put a weather strip on the front door, wrapped the water heater in an insulated "jacket", and wrapped all the pipes we could reach in foam tubing. We spent about $230 doing all this, and I don't know what to expect on our bill. Wasn't expecting the jump you've seen! But even if we don't see a big difference, I feel more reponsible.

I'll cross my fingers on the job interview for ya!

Amy, congrats on your saving strategies!!! Just keep reminding yourself that winter will be over soon! :)

And a job interview!!!??!?!!! That is fabulous news! If that doesn't pan out, does DH have anything else he can turn to right now?

Good luck with everything!!!

Fortunately! He's been doing all sorts of jobs since his unemployment ran out last year. He's currently doing surveillance for a private investigator and teaching a job skills class for a local community college's outreach program (the students are from the local rescue mission). He also drives limos. He's planning on 12-14 hour days this coming week with the Superbowl being in town! :-)
