Ordering Credit Reports

I just went out and figured out how to order a free copy of my credit report. We've been eligible to receive free ones 1x per year for a number of years in CO but apparently now everyone in the US is eligible. There are 3 agencies and you need to order from each. I guess the general wisdom is to spread your orders out through the year so you can catch any problems. So I ordered one today and put reminders for the next 2 on my work computer so it will remind me.

Didn't know where to go so figured I wasn't alone. Wanted to share the site. The 3 companies worked together to develop one website: www.annualcreditreport.com

Hope that helps someone out!

Just wanted to report back that credit report #1 has come in and all is fine! Yeah! I decided yesterday to wait until I've paid down my balance transfer before buying a credit score (in anticipation of a home purchase in 2007).

Now I'll wait until May and pull the next one of the 3 so I can watch for identity theft issues.

I knew about the free credit reports.. but I wanted to give everyone a heads up on this website I visited. It's called MYFICO.com. I signed up and got a free month, and it gives you your credit score, then continually monitors your credit and emails you when some activity occurs. For instance, I lost my Lowes card, so I called to report it lost/stolen. A few days later I got an alert that said my fico score went up 5 points because I had some activity on an account.(although I don't know why my score would go up because of a lost/stolen card, but it did!!)

It analyzes your weaknesses and tells you what you can do to improve your score. It also has a FICO simulator, It will ask you questions about paying off bills, or paying on time and such, or opening a new account and it will simulate your score to what the action was. It was VERY informative.. although I did just cancel because I didn't want to pay $80.00/year... but otherwise, I got my credit score for free, plus tips on how to improve... just don't forget to cancel before the 30 day deadline!!!!
