Hi all. My name is Ashley. I'm embarassed to say that at the age of 22 (I'll be 23 this Thursday) I am hopelessly in debt. It's too painful to tell you how much! I am recently divorced. Looking back, I was too young to get married (right out of high school). We were divorced last September. I work as an administrative assistant in a small office. Last October I thought it would be kind of fun to get a part-time job at the mall for the Christmas season. It was going to end right after the holiday season. During this time I found out that a number of sizable bills that I thought were going to be my ex's responsibility ended up in my lap. I practically begged my boss at the mall to keep me on. She was nice enough to pull some strings and I found out today that I will be staying on as a permanent part-time worker. It amazes me to think that I started that job 3 months ago as "just for fun" thing. There's nothing like working nights and weekends in addition to your regular full-time job to teach you to be more careful with money! Thanks for listening.

I just wanted to say "Welcome" and we always have room for one more on the board.

Congrats on getting the PT job. I would probably use all of that income for debt reduction and savings, and not rely on it for spending money. Just a thought. Divorce does nobody financial justice, but you're young enough that you have time to put yourself on a road to financial wellbeing.

Welcome, and we look forward to hearing more from you.

Hello and welcome to the board! I can totally sympathize with you as I am in a similiar situation. I am 22 as well and in loads of debt---7200 dollars between my car loan and my credit cards, and 48K (!!!!) in student loan debt, some of which has very high interest rates. You are not alone and this board is a great source of help and motivation!

Good luck in your journey to pay down your debt!

Hey girl! I turn 25 next month, and have a ton of debt, too! I feel your pain! I was married at 18, divorced at 21... We seem to have a lot in common!

My problem was mostly using CCs to pay bills while I was a single mother and trying to go to college. I am remarried now....hoping to pay the CCs off by the end of the year!

This board is always a great place to visit for ideas, encouragement, and if nothing else - a reminder of what you are trying to get accomplished!!!
