Collections question...

I have a $98 collection on my credit report. I paid this collection in July, 2005, but it's still showing up. I just did a dispute letter today, but is it going to matter whether it says "paid" or "unpaid" because just having a collection is just all together bad, right?

If I'm not mistaken, this collection record will (sadly) remain on your credit file for roughly seven years from the the date of posting. I am not sure of what you are disputing if you admittedly paid it last year.
Good luck.
Hello,
Yes, the collection will still appear on your credit history. However, it's better to have one that's "paid" than one that's "unpaid". I have one from a medical bill from surgery that my parents neglected to pay after my father was laid off. Of course, Mom didn't know at the time that it would appear on my credit report. Anyway, I paid it off and will look forward to the day when it falls off my credit report completely.
Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke
