I got my taxes done this weekend too. It's such a load off my shoulders. I'm getting back from the Federal Government enough to pay my City Taxes plus a couple of hundred I can apply against debt.

NOw I just have to get everything copied and in the mail.

Good for you for getting your taxes done! :-D $6.00 isn't too bad, really, to owe. Did you do pretty well on your Federal taxes? Are you getting a refund that more than makes up for the $6.00 you'll need to pay to the state?

With all the tax commercials on the TV right now, I'm sure you won't forget to file that state return. LOL! :-D It seems that every channel I turn to has some sort of tax commercial. Just a few miles from my house, I've got a man dressed as Uncle Sam and a lady dressed as Lady Liberty holding signs outside of a tax preparation place reminding me to file my taxes. LOL! :-D

I am in the same position as you are. I owe state, but I am receiving from federal. Unfortunately, I owe $282 to state. DH was unemployed a while this year and his unemployment did not get taxes taken out of it. But I am more than making up for it in federal. Our refund will be $4303. I was going to do 1/3 to debt, 1/3 to savings, and 1/3 to our vacation. I have changed my mind. I am doing 10% to tithe, then 1/2 to debt and then 1/4 to savings and 1/4 to vacation. I think that is a better plan!

Are you considering how your money is withheld by your employer? You stated mortgage is always short, if you took an additional deductions maybe you would still be able to have a smaller refund and have a little extra every month? I know it's nice getting that lump sum and I over withhold myself sometimes. I got a small refund last year <$500 and didn't touch my deductions because I knew I would make a lot more money in 2005 because I was doing TONS of OT($15K worth). Still haven't figured out if I'll get a refund, but hopefully keeping deductions fewer than I could claim I'll not owe.

DH claims 15 deductions already and it wouldn't make any difference if he claimed more at the moment.
