I always dread tax season, but for some reason, when I went through my paperwork this morning and saw that I had everything I needed to file, I felt better! I happily put my Turbo Tax software box and all my paperwork right next to my computer, and I decided that tonight, I will have a date with my taxes. LOL! I'm going to try my best to make this icky time a fun one. I'm going to put on some upbeat music and make a yummy snack, and I'm going to take my time and just do it. Get it over with. LOL! I'm not sure if we'll owe or not this year. Usually we get a sizable refund back $4K combined between Fed and State, but we sold stock last year to pay down points on our refi loan, so I'm not sure how it's all going to pan out. In any case, I'm determined to make this a fun evening. :-D

All my best,

Sounds good, Danni! I'm just about to get started on installing Turbo Tax, and I'm sure once my taxes are done, my son will be sound asleep, so I can enjoy a long soak in the tub without interruption. :-D

They're done!!! 3409 from Federal, 971 from State. Whew!! Now I just need to wait 24-48 hours for Turbo Tax to show my returns have been accepted. I can't believe it took me four hours to do these returns! LOL! I think what slowed me down was using the "It's Deductible" program that comes with the Turbo Tax program. Instead of previous years, where I'd write "Misc. Household items" donated to a charity with a dollar amount (yard sale prices), I had to go through and list each item individually, condition, etc. That took time because for some charities, I had five pages of donations that I'd given at one time (books, videos, articles of clothing, etc). Very time consuming.
At least it's over for another year. Now I can go to sleep. ;-)

Jenny,
That's a very good question! A couple of years ago when President Bush signed that tax relief bill and checks went out to everyone based on last name....remember that?....we got a check for $300. Then when I did my taxes, I didn't claim that $300 on my taxes, and even after Turbo Tax said my Federal return had been accepted, I still got a letter in the mail from the IRS saying that my refund amount was going to be different because of that error. I still got my refund, but I had definitely made a mistake on my return.
I think it means that Intuit (the company that makes Turbo Tax) submits your return for you, and it has to wait for confirmation that the IRS and/or your State tax office has received your return. I think that's what the "Your return has been Accepted" thing means. I could be wrong about that, though. LOL! :-D
About a week after e-filing your taxes, you can check with the IRS site, clicking on "Where's my refund?" (it's over on the left on the main IRS page, unless they've moved it), and it'll tell you when your refund will be mailed or direct deposited, depending on what you chose during the filing process. My state tax site (Georgia) also offers a "Where's your refund?" program too. I really love these because it prevents me from worrying and wondering and stressing about when my money is coming. LOL! :-D
I have to say, though, that I slept soooo soundly last night knowing my returns were filed. I usually wake a few times during the night, but last night, I slept for 7 hours without waking. Wow! Guess I got rid of the 'doing my taxes' stress. :-D
