So totally bummed--need to vent!

I just need to vent--so sorry if this seems trivial. We are moving overseas this summer. DH is in the military.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I called the shipping site and asked how much it would be to ship my van. The government will ship one vehicle (DH's SUV) so we have to pay for the other one. Then I was quoted "about $1800."
Since then, anytime DH wants anything, he says we have x amount in savings we don't need to use to ship the van, so why can't I get it. Well, true most of the money we have in savings is from our tax refund, so if it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have the money.
But, DH's attitude isn't the reason I am venting. I am venting because I called again today for an exact quote. The quote I was given today was $2670. WTH? Since when is $2670 ABOUT $1800? About $1800 plus or minus $100, NOT $870 more.
On the flip side, when I told DH his wants suddenly got a lot fewer. He was upset though by the amount and agreed with me that $2670 is no where near about $1800.
Thanks for letting me vent. Fortunately because of the tax refund we have the cash and this is what we earmarked the refund for in the very beginning. Now I will have to build savings back up to the magic $1000. Yes, I know there is really nothing magic about $1000, but that is the minimum amount for my comfort level, even though I have never had that much in savings, except at tax refund time. ;-).
Once again thanks for letting me vent.

Hugs Kellie. Dh and I have never been stationed overseas so I can't really relate to shipping vehicles over there, but I'm sorry that they quoted you wrong in the first place. I would be upset too. As for dh and his wants, true you wouldn't have the refund if it wasn't for him, but I hate to say it he needs to get with the program and realize that you are really both in the job, not just him. It's just as hard for the military wife as it is for the military member. True we don't actually have to do the job and go the places that they go, but we are along for the ride and giving up alot of stuff too. Also the money in savings should not be looked at, "we have this extra amount I want this and this and this". Maybe he could use a small amount of it and get what he wants. Last year at tax time dh wanted tattoos (why I don't know b/c I am not into them at all, plus I think they are a waste of money), but I told him "ok fine" that's the one thing you can do, but that's it. I think he was happy with that, b/c I don't recall him asking for anything else at that time.
Hope you figure something out and get it all worked out.
Michelle
Wow Kellie - good thing you called and checked again!
All my best,
Danni
Dh and I talked about doing that, but we need a car large enough for three car seats (by law in Germany you have to have children under 12 in at least a booster seat) and my van will be paid for in Feb and I would have to buy a new car when we come back to the states, so for us finacially it makes sense just to pay the shipping fees. I guess I look at it as I would have to spend $35,000 to $40,000 to buy a new van when we return, or I pay the $5500 to ship it there and back if that makes any sense.
