Hi,
I've been working on the taxes and am actually horrified at how much money we apparently made -- since I really can't account for where all of it went. I think I need to use one of the money management programs to keep tabs on things. I'm not a super computer program user, so ease in use would be really important. Do any of you have experience with either quicken or money? Which would you recommend? Thanks for any imput.

Quicken is super easy to set up and to use. I can't speak about Money because I have never used it.

However, I do know that with Quicken there is a tutorial that helps you set it up. All you really need is your last bank statement and you can go from there.

I've used both and I honestly prefer Quicken to Money.

Hi all,
Thanks so much for the info. I think I'll order Quicken -- it looks like there are various levels -- do you think "basic" would be ok -- they also have "deluxe" and "premier"
Thanks,

It all really depends on what you want and how sophiticated you want to get with tracking your spending. I would suggest you go to the intuit website (the company that does quicken and turbo tax) and see if they have a link to which quicken is best for me. I have a feeling that you don't need premier. I can't remember, but I think that is just a lot of extra bells and whistles that you won't need unless you have complicated stock portfolios, a lot of other investing, and maybe a home based business.

I have Quicken deluxe and I am honestly not sure why I have it other than DH decided that was the one we needed. We got it before I got fully involved with doing the finances, but even the deluxe is easy to use.

Hi,
Thanks -- I think I'll go with the standard version -- clearly I need to get a handle on things.

I bought Quicken Basic right around the beginning of the year from eBay for $15 no shipping. I've been happy with it except that it won't track my 401k I guess. It says I need the next version up to get that. Maybe next year. For now, I'll be happy to keep my accounts in order. I did finally get most everything in there in terms of accounts, etc and now I know my net worth so that is nice! Especially since it's still positive despite the debts.

Hi,
Well, since the 403B isn't getting added to right now while I try desperately to get us below 30,000.00 in credit card debt (right now at $33500.00) I think the basic will be just fine. But seeing where exactly the money is going will really be a big help. (And I plan some kind of celebration here if I can ever get out of the $30,000 range!!!)
Thanks
Megan
