At least I think it's today--last time she had DRamsey on I was a bit disappointed w/ the show. I don't think he'll be on but from the clip yesterday it looked like they were going to focus a little on how we are all living beyond our means. Ain't that the truth? Just thought I'd let ya'll know.....sometimes I see things differently after watching one of these shows. It's definately inspirational for those of us digging out. ;)

I saw that too this morning. I'm pretty sure it's on today. They're putting people on "financial diets." Even if I know all the advice (mostly from here :) ) I still like to watch to see other people's debt. I guess it makes me feel better.

So did anyone watch it??? I did. I think it's interesting to hear other's stories and situations. I liked the "contract" part of the diet as well. I haven't gone to her website yet to see additional information that is available. I'll check that out soon.

I watched it. I was impressed w/ the fact that Oprah has a challenge for 'us' to get out of debt. It's funny (not haha funny but interesting funny) to see how those families live because if I'd seen them out somewhere I would've thought they had it all together. It just proves that you really don't know how people are living, getting by,etc. I mean, my dh and I both have 10 and 12 yr old cars. We can get a new one but haven't rushed out to get one yet. I always think that when people see me in my old Jeep they must think we are broke all the time. We're not--still paying off some student loans and stuff but could finance a car. I guess that was sorta the point some of those financial experts were getting at: FINANCING stuff...because I didn't say we could Afford a new car. Technically we can't since we do have debt. KWIM? I think it'd be nice for the American way to be to save! It isn't though which I thought was the point of the show, how we all want it right now, etc. Sorry for rambling....just thought it was proof that while we see our neighbors n these huge homes brand new cars, etc that at least half the time these people are drowning every month. I always wonder that when I see people. Ain't I a crackpot? I know some CAN afford this stuff but most cannot.....technically.

I got home in time to see part of the show. The families on there were really deep in debt due to their own over-spending. I had a hard time relating to them because they all seemed so irresponsible. But the main point of the show was how the money problems were damaging their personal relationships. All of the marriages were in trouble and the kids were learning to take advantage of mom and dad. It said they will follow these families through the next few months as the experts work with them, so that will be interesting to watch.

I personally didn't get a whole lot out of this show, because the problems were kinds of outrageous. TV=drama, of course. My problems aren't as dramatic as the ones depicted and aren't due to overspending on hair salons, starbucks and over-indulging the kids.

The experts' basic advice is pretty common sensical, stuff we all already know:
Don't live above your means.
Pay attention to what you're spending.
Have a spending plan.
Don't over-indulge your kids.
Don't over-use credit cards.
Watch your daily expenses.
Work as a family team.
Etc.

Knowing what to do and actually DOING it are two different things.

Your thought "to see how those families live because if I'd seen them out somewhere I would've thought they had it all together. It just proves that you really don't know how people are living, getting by,etc." Was the exact thing I was thinking. At first I didn't realize it was going to be a "series" story. I will probably end up following it the web as I am usually at work when it comes on. I looked at the "contract" and it's very generic, however, Oprah has some really good tips on her site to help get debt under control. I like the fact that she has 3 different styles of "experts". I usually use a little bit of info from each of them that works best in our situation.
