Struggling with debt and creditors and all that is associated with trying to dig out of a big hole is stressful, and often we find ourselves just exhausted at the end of each day.

All my best,
Danni

The things that are best for me really didn't happen to me, but closely involve me. The best thing that happened is that my DS#1 started preschool. Since he started (even though at three, he is speaking on a two year old level) he has been able to recite his abcs and he can identify all of the upper case letters by name.

Runner up #1, my DH finished his master's thesis. He is attending school now with the military and part of his graduation requirement is that he write this paper. It is fantastic because it lowered his stress level which lowered the stress level of the entire house. Once he's finished with this school, he will have two master's (he got one last year), so will be very marketable once he decides to leave the military.

Don't really have a runner up #2. Heck we are barely two months into the new year. Give me a little more time.

It seems like Since the beginning of the year things have just been holding steady, nothing too great or too awful, and I'll actually take that. Well, I guess I have to say that getting a $50 git certificate from the grocery store was fun! Also, I have been enjoying spending time with my SO..he makes me laugh so much!!!

Well I would have to say it is a good year so far. Best thing this year was my raise at work, much more than I would have expected and it let me know they noticed I busted my butt last year working more than 60 hours a week. Second best thing I think would be my 30th birthday, it was something I've been looking forward to for over a year. My fiance and I have birthdays just a couple of days apart so we had a nice dinner out, it was the first time in awhile we had spent money to go out for a nice meal. Third would be spending a nice day this past Monday with a co-worker outside of the office, we had a nice breakfast and then went to see the King Tut exhibit in Ft. Lauderdale.

Hi, all. Good question, Danni--positive things keep you motivated. Single best thing--DH getting his new job! A small raise, working with people he knows, established company, more flexible hours. None of this merger mania, etc. For me, the only positive thing is the weight staying off for 6 months. Whiz.

I think my most positive things so far this year would be 1. getting serious about paying off our debt and being honest with DH about the amount of our cc debt to get him serious as well! 2. Getting serious about finally losing my pregnacy weight, I never lost all of it from Cassandra before I got pregnant with Frank and I finally decided to do something and I've lost 10 lbs so far!!! My son turns 1 next month and that is something I am really looking forward too. Also seeing how my children are growing and how they are starting to play together is such a fun thing to watch.

Hi, Janet--Hey, congrats on your weight loss! Doesnt it feel great to be able to keep off the weight? For me, I've kept off about 20 lbs so far. At least it has helped with the food bill. Have pretty much eliminated sugary fruit juices, and drink flavored waters. The only other thing I did differently was eat more salads and soup, sometimes yogurt. At night if I'm hungry, I get some soup. It has definitely made a difference. How did you do it? What is your goal? Whiz.

For sure the #1 good thing that kicked off this year was I getting a new mortgage financed with 100% ownership in the condo STBX and I had bought last year...it's a bit scary being a single homeowner but I am so proud of that accomplishment!
A close second would be the really big raise I got last week in my yearly eval; it feels good to know my hard work and dedication was noticed!
That will help the snowballing in a good way and it'll give me a bit more breathing room.

I love this question, Danni! :-D

The absolute BEST thing that happened this year, so far, is not financial at all. We found a new karate school for our son! His old school was not promoting children from the little kids' class (ages 3-6) to the Bigger Kid class (ages 7-13) like they should have been. We had been asking about this for six months, along with the parents of a handful of other children (some as old as 8 1/2) who also had not been moved up. My son is 7 1/2, and during his last tournament in late January, he ended up with three officials standing over him, demanding to know why he hadn't been moved up to the older kids' level. He had no answer to give, and they put him off in his own ring to compete away from his friends, like an outcast. That made me soooo mad. So I made some calls and got him out of that school and enrolled into a newer school just a few minutes from our house, and he has already been promoted a full belt rank! He is thriving and advancing as he should have been all along, and his love for the sport has returned. His new teachers are wonderful and manage to make every child in their school feel like they are special and can do anything that they set their minds to. This, by far, has been my greatest triumph of 2006. :-D

For my two runner-up positives, I'd have to say: Having my taxes done! Whew! Boy, am I glad that's over and done with. LOL! Also, being able to put my tax return towards my credit card. It was just deposited in my bank account on Friday, so I set up a transfer to move it to my credit card this coming Tuesday. It should bring my balance under 6K, and I honestly don't think I've seen a balance that low in about 10 years. LOL! :-D

Lots of positives this year! I had a feeling 2006 would be our best year ever, and so far, it's shaping up to be that way. :-D

Hugs,
Pat :-D

Great question! This has been a good year so far...#1 - filed taxes efile & received unexpected $500 refund, #2 - took a mini vacation (3nights) paid for in cash, #3 knocking on 1 year weight loss maintenance - got so tired of chasing the same 15 pounds around...got busy & lost it & have finally kept it off!!

Have a good day everyone!
