Well, I only had dh's dental bill $335., a $62 ER bill from last year when we took the baby to the hospital (out of state nonetheless, we'd met our deductible for the year so lucked out there), then I had a small $25 bill for a hearing test for one of my boys'. Why the insurance won't cover that I don't know. Those are paid.....now, I'm probably going to blow through about $400 this week at the optometrist's office. I'm scheduled and way overdue. My last visit was 2 years ago so I need new contacts, and new glasses (I get the cheapos but pair now is 10 years old), and the eye exam (no frickin eye insurance) blech! Plus--I have to make an appt to see an periodontist since I'm brushing my teeth too hard and wearing away my gumline and exposing some nerve. It's actually pretty painful. I'll probably need surgery and we'll just see if the insurance decides if they want to pay for it or not.

Hi, SJ. Congrats on paying off those pesky medical bills! To me, those are the most expensive things that can wreck havoc with finances, cc's, etc. I am pushing to do the same. WHiz.

I know, I've been following along w/ your posts. I so feel your pain. Just keep hounding them until they pay. Luckily I've not had quite the problems w/ my insurance co. as you are having. I think companies like this are what gives insurance a bad name--I know all of them are in it for the $$ anyhow but some are worse than others. I had a problem w/ a speech and hearing eval. that they wanted to bill me $400 some dollars for and the insurance kept rejecting the claim saying it wasn't covered. So, I kept calling them, they'd resubmit the claim, the insurance co even 'sent it to the medical dept' whatever that means, they never paid it. I finally found out from the hospital that the insurance co. wrote it off--I never paid a dime. This same thing happened again about 2 years later, same kid, same deal.....and again, I didn't pay it. It pays to keep hounding them I guess. I'd think that at some point they'd realize that financially it makes more sense to just pay your claim than to talk to you on the phone 100 times. I'll watch for you paid off medical bills post too! GL and I know what a PITA they are.

Hi, SJ--Thanks for the support, from someone who has been there. It absolutely is amazing what lengths one has to go to, to get a response--any response--from insurance. I would much rather have them say, Not covered, than to drag it out. I'll keep writing and calling. whiz.

congrats on paying off those medical bills!!! it must feel great!

as for the optometrist(sp?) are you able to go to a eye care place like lenscrafters or 4 eyes. I go to lenscrafters and get the eye exam there and then get my glasses there. (i have a coupon for 50% any pair of glasses.. i can mail it to you if you want!)

I could I suppose but truth is my Dr is very fair--price wise and I really really like him. The last pair of glasses that I bought I only paid like $80 frames and all--they were from his budget collection (since I only wear them at night and at home and occasionally out and about) I won't pay a ton for a brand label. Actually they are pretty cute too. I'm due for new lenses for sure and will probably splurge on the new frames. The cost will be for my contact lenses. We'll see....I go in on Thurs.

Other than the Lenscrafters and other eyewear stores, Costco and Walmart often have the same frames at discounted prices. I'm way over due for my eye exam, and even with the insurance I'm looking at about $200 out of pocket when I pay for contacts fitting (not a covered part of exam) and I have to figure which would be better have them pay part of the glasses or part of the contact costs. I just dropped into Walmart vision center last week and saw some basic frames fairly cheap. I think I might splurge a bit on the glasses though, because I'm unable to wear my contacts more frequently so I'd rather get something that I like and looks better for a little more money than have frames I don't like or wearing contact in only one eye because I don't want people to see my glasses. :)
