Were you pushed into this?

Here's a question to ponder: Did you start your debt reduction journey as your own decision, or were you pushed into it by someone else (other than the debt collectors or credit card company/student loan company/loan company/etc.?) like a spouse, family member or friend or even a financial advisor? If so, do you really feel on board with it, or are you resisting it? Has the push been upsetting or inspirational? Would you have done this on your own?

It was definitely my choice to begin paying off the debt. I have close friends who are in worse financial situations and still have the proverbial head in sand mentality...and it scares me enough to straighten out my own situation.
Looking at the debt mountain that I started off with, I must admit I was initially upset at how high it was, but seeing my snowflakes increase bit by bit and the balances going down in the right direction it has become a good challenge!
Also having my E-Fund for the first time in a long while is also really encouraging so I am improving my financial standing on both fronts.

For us, it was a little of both.

No if anyone is doing the pushing it's me. I am so tired of stressing about money and fighting with DH everytime I would pay our bills. Even before we had kids we had trouble but it just got worse when we had Cassandra and then compounded when we unexpectedly got pregnant with Frank. I finally couldn't take it anymore right around Christmas and now I'm really excited to get things paid off and to find ways to save money. It's hard because we were both used to "buying" whatever we wanted when we wanted it but now I stop and ask myself do I really NEED something before I buy it. DH is doing better too. His AMEX bills used to be around $1,000.00 a month (that included gas, his insulin and needles - he is diabetic, work stuff but still) in February it was only $255.00!!!!!!! ANd I had all of that budgeted. My goal is to have the CCs paid off by the end of the year and then all we will have is the mortgage! I will NEVER get myself into this position again.
