Okay, the title of this post is a bit hokey.................however, what have you done in the past year on your debt reduction journey that you deserve a "reward" for? (If you do decide to give yourself a reward based on this post, make it a paper diploma or certificate...hang it on the frig!) Do you deserve a reward for starting the journey, finishing the journey, overcoming an obstacle, getting caught up with payments, not bouncing a check? Being patient? Dealing with a partner who was not on board? Self-discipline? Or is is a small thing that adds up..............like being a snowflaker???

What would you get an award for?

Hi, Motorcyclemouse! Loved your answer!

I hereby nominate myself for the "Best Debt Equestrian" award....I fall off the horse, but keep getting back on! (I think I'm riding a horse thru this debt journey....it sure isn't a race car! LOL!)

I would like to nominate our household for Best Rate Surfing - I think this falls into the category of a "technical award" - probably handed out at a boring lunch that the press doesn't even attend - it's nothing sexy like "Best Kiss Off Letter to a Creditor" or even "Best Red Carpet Bargain Rags" - but hey, we'll take what we can get!

All my best,
Danni

Hello,

I nominate us for the "Best Use of a Sad Time". I received a $10,000 inheritance that I wasn't expecting, from my grandmother. It went on the mortgage as an extra principal payment, which means that our 30 year fixed mortgage (started in Oct 2004) is now a 16 year fixed mortgage without refinancing. We are that far ahead on the amortization schedule. I cetainly can't expect that kind of inheritance in the future, but it was the best use of the money at the time.

Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke

I think I would give myself an award for being on-track all year. I did have one minor slip-up with an overdraft in July. I forgot to record a receipt that was in my pocket, and lo and behold...a $10 overdraft! I found out about it three days after it happened and rushed to the bank to fix the problem, so although I beat myself up over it at the time, I still consider it minor. :-D

Hi, LB. Good question. I am not that self-disciplined (yet). However, I feel I would get an award for being a good snowflaker or round-upper. Every time I get paid, I dilligently just pay more to the regular bills. Sometimes, I pay double payments to the gas/electric and gas bills--one on-line, one snail-mail. It is neat to hear DH say, "Gee, the gas bill is only $50 this month? "or, "We dont owe anything on the Cingular until April?" It has made a huge difference. Am happy to say, I finally ordered the basic Quicken, and Powerpoint, which will soon be arriving, so I can keep track of the snowflakes! It is so much fun to round up, and easier for me to do the math. Whiz.

Hi, Danni. I am going to nominate myself for the best "Rounder-upper" award. Every bill (not yet the medical) I round up to an even number. It helps me with the math. Whiz.
