Great links Danni. I don't have kids yet, but when I do, I want to know how to teach them about money! My parents declared personal bankruptcy when I was 14, and I still ended up in severe cc debt by the time I was 20. You'd think I'd have learned.... but I've always been a "learn from my OWN mistakes" kind of person.
I am happy that they at least never tried to hide their finances from me. Every payday, my parents (when they were together) would sit down at the kitchen table and write out a budget. I learned to do that myself later on, and it has been invaluable in helping me get out of debt. I'm lost without my bi-weekly payday budget.

In the spirit of there is no such thing as an original idea anymore look what I just found on the website for a professional women's group I keep thinking I should belong to. This is on the one Saturday in April that I have a commitment on. My Longaberger sale is scheduled for that day. I still might call and see if I can somehow make it work around that. LOL

2006 REALITY STORE There are times when we volunteer our time or donate our money and we wonder if we are really making an impact. There is no question about the significant impact of the BPW Reality Store – on the participants and the volunteers.
So what is the Reality Store? Think of it as a life-size version of the board game, the “Game of Life”. Girl between the ages of 10 and 12 choose a career that interests them. Based on their career choice, we compute an average monthly salary at the age of 26. Then the fun begins. The girls pay for their taxes, pick up a checkbook, and physically begin writing checks for housing, insurance, school loans, entertainment, childcare……and the always enjoyable fate, where the girls select a token that represents the unplanned things in our lives that cost/provide additional money.
On April 29, 2006, Girls Scouts of Mile High Council is sponsoring the "Cool Cash Bash" providing financial literacy programs and events to over 500 girls ages 8 – 18. The BPW Reality Store will be the cornerstone to the financial literacy day.
Due to the increased size of the event, we will need over 100 volunteers. If you are interested in helping in any way, please contact . We will follow up with you to confirm your availability and desire.
I hope you will join us in helping young women – future BPW members – learn about opportunities available for women today and the need to make good choices early.
