Good for you for knowing your own insurance rules!! It will pay off in the long run as you figure out how to pay for everything. Sounds like you made a great decision on the car too.

I'm new here so hope you don't mind if I jump in...good for you staying on top of your insurance. I work for a fairly large medical clinic (40+ doctors) in the billing dept and I can tell you from experience that it is really sound advice to closely monitor your medical bills and insurance payments. There is so much room for human error, and it happens all the time. Unfortunately, there are so many insurances and insurance plans out there that providers can't possibly know them all. I can't speak for all clinics, but our clinic uses a computer system that will automatically kick the balance over to the patient if the insurance hasn't paid on a claim after so many days. Obviously, this prompts patients to call us inquiring about why their insurance hasn't paid. Many are very angry that they are getting a bill, but in many cases this is how the provider knows that there is a problem to look into. There is not enough man power to go into each accout manually on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis to check on the status of each claim. Many people receive a bill and just pay on it without questioning why insurance hasn't paid, and because that charge is now a zero balance, a lot of times it doesn't get looked at again.

When I started working for this clinic, I was truly in awhh of all the different denial reasons an insurance can use to deny a claim. I would say it ranges from several hundred to over a thousand reasons per ins company. Insurances are very picky and from my experience will do everything they can to deny a claim. We see it all the time where we will rebill and rebill an insurance and get no response. We call the insurance and the say they can't find any of the claims in their system. It's just ridiculous.

Well, just thought I'd give you all a bit of an inside look at medical insurance and I really encourage everyone to stay on top of their bills and insurance payments.
