Celebrating milestones

When you have reached a milestone in your debt journey, how do you celebrate or do you celebrate at all? Do you treat youreslf to a nice meal? Do you do a dance around the kitchen? Do you put a star in your planner? Do you increase the budget? Do you give your sweetie a high-five?
What kind of milestones do you celebrate?

I usually reward myself with something pampering (a long bath, etc), and I fix a really nice dinner for myself. I also make sure to write in my journal about it so I can always remember how it felt to reach that milestone. :-D

Good question! I haven't thought about it. Hubby and I are hoping to hit a big milestone at the end of this month. I will get a bonus from work, and we are using it to pay off our 2nd mortage. And we'll be using our tax refund and a few more months of paying to hopefully get rid of our cc balance. But we haven't thought about what to do for a celebration. We probably should do something. Definitely some "woo-hoos!"
Hello,
Regarding celebrating, I do a little inner dance and a lot of woohoo's when we lower a debt by 1K. I have several gift certificates that I've received for Christmas and birthday gifts recently, so if I have a particularly large snowball (over $1000), I head out for a shopping session using *only* those gift certificates.
I don't spend any extra money and it gives me a little boost. I used to send extra payments to our mortgage (but now am focusing on the smallest debt and paying minimums everywhere else). My DH would get a big silly grin on his face every time our mortgage balance broke another 1000.
Since I've already sent over $2000 in snowball payments to debt this month, I used a MyIntimacy.com gift certificate to buy some lingerie. That definitely gave DH a grin.
For smaller celebrations, I brew a cup of soothing tea, light a fragrant candle, take a nice hot bath and then curl up in my bathroom to read a good book. I occasionally drink tea, read the book, and take the bath all at once, with the candle making the bathroom smell nice. =)
I have a large collection of good-smelling candles that I forget to use, so I'm working my way through them as I pay off debt. I can't justify buying any more if I don't use the ones I have!

Lindsey Schocke
