Anyone have the Disney credit card?

I keep seeing the applications for it and since we are going in September '07, I wonder if it's a good idea to get one.

I had a customer at the restaurant pay with one and she said she puts EVERYTHING on it because she's saving to take her grandkids in a few years. You get 1% back on your purchases in Disney reward dollars to be used for most anything at Disney(tickets, food, merchandise). Plus I found an offer for 50 reward dollars just to sign up.

I figure we could put all of our groceries, gas, clothes and things we will need once the new house is done on it. If our limit is high enough we could put our appliances on there! I would just write the check out to the cc each time I used it and mail it in. I know I would pay it off each month because we finally got out of cc debt and I'm very anal about it now.

Does anyone else have one? Do you think it's worth it? I figure if I spend an average of $600 a month I would have $100 in reward dollars in 18 months not including any big purchases for our house. That's a few t-shirts and suveniors for the kids! And you know how expensive that stuff is!

We won't have to pay for our stay because dh's parents bought a timeshare and they are also paying for our tickets (as birthday and Christmas presents.) But we will pay for 4 airplane tickets, food, and merchandise. Any little bit helps right?

Nicki-

We looked at that card but got a better cash reward from citibank. I just let the $$ keep accumulating and whenever we are going on vacation I request a check 3 weeks before we leave and that is our cash.

One idea for disney is to request people buy disney dollars(at the disney store) for the kids for bdays and holiday before you leave. That worked well for us for the kids to have spending money. Just check on where they can use them before you buy them(the disney store can tell you where they can spend them).

Have fun! We love Disney and are going next January....

I have one and we did have $200 to spend on souvenirs and such when we were down there this summer.

However, that was with putting the entire trip ON the card to get the points.

In reality, it's not a very good rewards card - first off it's not dollar for dollar it's 1% so you basically have to spend $100 before you get $1 back.

HUGE Disney fan here!!!

I agree with a previous poster...I think the Citi Rewards card is a better deal. It gives you 1% on everything plus 5% back from gas and grocery stores. It adds up quickly.

Have fun planning your vacation!

We have it but I agree with the previous posters-we had the card for 2 years and around Christmas were able to convert points into $100 disney dollars for Christmas gifts but it was a bit of a hassle-unlike the cash rebate programs.

Right now-DH likes having all 5 cards and I would like to cut back. We have 2 with long-term balances (low interest rate offers), 1 that DH uses exclusively for business, 1 that I use exclusively for household and then DH wants to keep the Disney one for when his business expenses have used up the credit limit.

I know that seems alarming-as a college debate coach he has some months where he travels about half the month and is putting 4-5 rooms per night on the CC. Scary isn't it?

I agree that there are better reward cards if you qualify for them. Citibank is my favorite credit card provider and I think the Disney is a Chase product and I'm not as fond of them. The nice thing about the Citibank is that you could use the money toward the airfare too.

Nicki,
I have a Disney Visa...i got it when they were running a special on balance transfers (which do not accumulate points) the interest rate is high, compared to the other cards I have (basically, all rewards cards are like that) If you slip up just one month and don't pay the darn thing in full, it practically negates the months you have done really well for yourself. Not to say that you would slip up, but I have, and I tend to be pretty careful. I do still use my card, but basically for bigger purchases that are budgeted anyway, and then i transfer the money right away.
i think the perk is being able to finance your vacation six months no interest, and the deals for when you actually go to the park, so i still think it can be worth it..just not necessarily for the $50 you have to spend $5000 to get!
