A little discouraged....

Hi guys...from the looks of other posts, I'm not the only one in the leaky rocky boat. For some reason today just seemed to take the cake. We may need to get a new oven, since our local repair guy won't even touch ours...DH worked late and picked up pizza for supper, although as he pointed out, somewhat proudly, he did use his allowance money (big note here, since prior to me visiting here and us being so open about our debt, this was never considered). Of course, the beer came out of the food budget (and how have we managed to spend so much on food in just the first five days of April????).

I did our budget this morning and reworked numbers, so we may have a little more to put toward our cc this month. Where school vacation is this month, that is also one week we don't pay for preschool, so that is some extra too. I just feel like I am treading water. Maybe it was the weather too today, I don't know.....just feeling a little blue too I guess. Although I am making sure I don't go shopping while I'm in this mood!!!! That is a good thing.

HUGS!

You probably won't use your oven a lot in the summer anyway, right? ;)

Hang in there. If you do need to get a new oven check to see if there are any "dent or dinged" appliance stores around. Where I live Sears sells their discountinued, scratched, or dinged appliances at a separate store at a significant discount.

My friend lived without an oven for 14 years. The burners on top worked, but the oven itself didn't. Whenever she wanted to roast something, she did it in one of those countertop roaster things that you can pick up for around $50. Something to consider as a temporary fix if getting a new oven is going to set you back too much right now.

Thank you all for your encouragement. I appreciate the suggestions for the oven; it does still work, it just has a leak (gas) inside near the broiler attachment. Not a large leak, so not a huge deal but still. I am definitely going to check out the slightly dinged, etc ones in the department stores. DH is really good at sleuthing out the sales and rebates so that will be on his to do list. Between us we can hopefully get a good deal.

Good news today, our electric bill was almost $40 lower than we budgeted....I hear a snowflake gently wafting into our cc pile o' debt. :)

Thank you so much for the support! I really appreciate it.

I can empathise with you and the oven. My oven broke the other day. I know as I have tried to bake a number of things and nothing is cooking. It cooks a little on the top and cooks nothing at the bottom. It's a goner.

I have been pricing these for awhile and know that I am looking at around $1000 plus tax. I am looking at a drop-in oven.

Anyway, I have decided that I can survive with the stovetop, microwave, and toaster oven until I can save for a new one. I need to redo my kitchen, and that's a lot to save. I can also hear my fridge about to die, and I just lost my washer and dryer. My mum helped me with $500 and I paid the other $600 plus to replace those 2 items. I worked out my new kitchen appliances would be close to $3000. An amount of money I just don't have sitting around. I am now just down to needing about $2000 worth of stuff - not much for some people but a world away for me.

I have so many other items I am trying to save for as well, and my one paycheck only goes so far!

I hear you, we are going to remodel our kitchen (waaaay down the road), and would like to do stainless steel appliances. To that end, we are trying to just survive with what we have...even though our oven is in dire straits. We were completely without oven last summer, and we managed to survive (with $300 in repairs and sporadic service from GE). We are just hesitant to throw more money at it.
