I live in MO where gas prices are usually below the national average. Right now, we're at 2.49. I find two things interesting-the first is how fast prices are rising. We've had 10 cent increases the last two weeks. Of course, I filled my car up on the wrong side of that one. The second is that I don't see as much fuss about it now-prices are just as high as they were post-hurricanes but I don't see the billboards hawking gas saving items or gas cap locks. I don't hear people discussing it as much, etc. I can't decide if we've just accepted that gas will cost this much or what.

We have gotten used to it (society, that is) for the most part.

I told DH that we'll deal with it until it hits $3/gallon, then we will take DRASTIC measures to save every cent we can on gasoline!

Hi, MB-- I can relate---DH is driving more with new job. I saw one place where premium gas was $3.10/gallon!. A station off the freeway. I cant find that website where it compared gas prices for the week. People would post where they lived (i.e., North, South County, etc.) and let people know of the cheapest places. Some pooh-bah about switching to summer additives, say the oil companies. Yeah, right. Gold, perhaps? I read recently where some folks are ditching the cars altogether and renting cars (with others) to get where they need to go. Hugs.Whiz.

Hi, Over 40---NH? I thought gas prices were cheaper there. When did the gas surge ahead? About a month ago, the gas stocks were flat (ExxonMobil, etc.), and they werent doing anything. Now, they're starting to go up again. Gas jumped about 12cents in the last two weeks here. Whiz.

Hi Whiz yes gas prices are cheaper in southern NH but the further north you come the highter the price. Last gas increases I saw it jump .16 at one time.

I hear ya, I just had to add money to our gas budget and adjust everything else. On my way to work this morning I saw gas for $2.59 which is the cheapest I've seen in a while but I'm sure by the time I leave at 3:00 today it will be up to $2.65 or higher!!

Here is a link I found on another board that will tell you were to find the least expensive gas in your area.

Dallas news this morning said that we (so I'm sure other markets in the US) will be paying well over $3 a gallon shortly. Gas has risen .17 cents in two weeks. They are blaming the new additive as the cause, Lord help us if there is a hurricane in the gulf. Interestingly they said it will not only be the price of gas but intermitent shortages. And while every gas station will have gas, you mark my words, there will be intermitent "shortages" of REGULAR gas, forcing the consumer to go to mid or premium gas...at higher than $3+ a gallon.

Exxon posted a $39 BILLION profit last year, and is the number one profitable company in the US for 2005.

Again, further destruction of the middle class....as you see more and more slide into the "poor" ranks.

We just hit $1.09 a litre around here this weekend. Ouch. Now $40 doesn't fill the tank.

The tough part is that there is no way for me to do my job without a car. I have to drive to clients. We're lucky that DH can use the bus or bike to school and work - that's why we live in this neighbourhood, which is slightly more expensive.

A couple of my clients raised my rates for me when gas started going up, LOL. It was really nice of them. But I can't raise everyone's rates - times are tough.

I think people stopped being shocked a couple of years ago. Now they've become accustomed to higher gas prices. Around here, more people seem to be using public transit.
