Finally some good, unexpected news.....I am actually getting a substantial refund from taxes.....I had not thought I was getting anything back, but to my utter surprise and shock, I am. I've even rechecked the math! YAY! And , yes, I am going to apply all but $100 to the debt. I will set up the official paperwork tonight, and I will mail it on the way to work tomorrow. I am very happy!
(I am using the $100 for a daytrip!)
I am sickened. Just sickened.....I am drowning in STUFF!!!!! I have too much stuff!!!!! I started to work on the reorganization project again the last 2 days, and it was tough.......but I was trying to reorganize something small in the bathroom that suddenly mushroomed into the realization of how much STUFF there was in the bathroom, and there was even more health and beauty aid stuff in the bedroom. I was trying to group it together, and there was just too much STUFF, and I realized that this was all MONEY. Spent money. This is where my money has gone....and this is just a subset of STUFF. I put this part of the project down, but I will resume it tonight. I was so freaked out by how much STUFF there was. TOO MUCH. No, no shopping mood at all. Squashed. Yikes. I need no health and beauty aid stuff for months.......I do not have to buy ANYTHING. YIKES!!!!!!!
So I do have a sense of accomplishment in a way for this weekend. I got a few things done.
Going to a child's party ---at the mall--- today.......I have to buy a gift still, but usually we give clothes......NO CHARGING..........................
Have a great Sunday! Littlesbigs, uncluttering.

Oh I know what you mean with the STUFF...I am in the process of un-STUFFing or de-STUFFing our closet. I will have some things to go to goodwill, some for consignment, and some for keeping. It is amazing what gets pushed to the back, forgotten.
Congrats on the tax refund...that is wonderful! And good for you for resisting the shopping lure.
What we have done this weekend: we had a birthday party yesterday, for our god-daughter, and we didn't use the cc at all (we brought, other than the gift, wine and bread). Old days, we would have brought much more and charged all of it. Today DH and I cleaned, baked, and cooked. Both boys helped; we went nowhere today which was really nice. Saved on gas too, since that is astronomical now.
Tomorrow I am watching a friend's kiddo (little extra money), which will be nice for my two boys. My biggest accomplishment yet this weekend: finishing another Christmas present. Everyone has wanted me to make them scarves for Christmas (they see me knitting like a madwoman, lol), so I have been buying yarn on sale and knitting in my "spare" time. I think DH is kind of proud that I am so far ahead already on gifts; I know I am.
This Friday is payday, and hopefully DH's bonus in the check too...I am hoping to get some progress going on our debt. He gets paid every two weeks, so there is lag time between the forward momentum.
So this may be the stupidest question ever, but where did you learn to knit?? I have always wanted to do this and I have no idea how to go about learning. I think it would be a relaxing hobby that is also productive!!!
Becky
Bex -
Not a stupid question at all! I learned to knit when I was about 6 or 7; my grandmother taught me. She was quite the knitter; her projects were really works of art. I re-taught myself about five years ago (since I hadn't knit much beyond a scarf for my dolly when I was little). I bought a basic knitting book at a craft store and some yarn and needles and went for it. It is very easy to do and very relaxing. Plus I find I don't snack or spend money when I am knitting (two of my problem areas).
I think there are some websites too that have free patterns and instructions...
Dear Whiz,
I'm not sure how long anything can be kept....maybe everything should come with an expiration date! (Well, I know my Credit cards have expiration dates, LOL!) I am trying to toss out anything that is no longer worth anything to me or if any health/beauty aids are old.....but when I have hit the sales in the not too distant past, I have BOUGHT and BOUGHT..............OVERBOUGHT.................I am set for months and months.
I have tossed out manuals from old jobs unless they are technical and apply to work I do now. I think university books that I have left that I did not sell are still worth something to ME, but........I just can't part with my notes.....sentimental reasons.
I am going to keep working at this........
Best wishes, Littlesbigs
Dear Candytester,
You keep up the good work, too!
Those knitted scarves will make wonderful gifts! I find knitting and crafting to be such a wonderful stress reliever!
You are right....the stuff at the back of the closet can be VERY INTERESTING! (And very forgotten!) Glad to know I have de-cluttering company!
Best wishes, Littlesbigs
Hi,
I had to post because knitting is my thing now! I wanted to learn about a year ago so I bought a book called Stitch n Bitch by Debbie Stoller (you can get it at the library too). It's really easy to learn by following her photo instructions. I started a little group of friends once a week at coffee shops and bars where we'd knit and gossip. So fun! I've recently found that there is a huge young Stitch n Bitch following with groups across the country who meet up and a yahoo groups message board to find each other. Try a google search. It's fun, productive, and super low cost.
