Lazy sunday--trying to recoup-bad skin

Hi, all. Well, I took a few days off. Am just beside myself with all the dissing and hissing (work--new computers coming up soon), and skin that looks like an elephant's behind, that I slept in. DH did ALL of the laundry, made breakfast, did dishes, put everything away, etc. He even cleaned the bathroom. My hands are covered in bandaids (Mummy Returns) and enough goop to look like Crisco. Fry me up. Ladies, I need help. Doc is on vacation, and I dont know what else I can put on my skin. Ideas? Thanks. WHiz.

You poor thing!!! I have horrible skin, esp in the winter time. I get bad cracks that don't heal for months. What I have been doing is slathering Burts Bees Hand Salve on, caking it on, and then wearing gloves (there are special ones for wearing at night). It really does work! DH also got me rubber gloves to wear for washing dishes and those help too, I feel like I can clean anything in them!!! Good luck and maybe someone has some other good ideas.

p.s. I always call myself "Les Nesman" with the bandaids; don't know if you are old enough to remember the show WKRP in Cincinnati. :)

I get awful dry cracked hands from hand washing at work, especially in the winter. Then I use hand sanitzer after I change my kids' diapers, and my hands are toast. I like the Nexcare skin crack care. It's a clear liquid that comes in a little bottle like nail polish. I tend to use whatever hand lotion we have in the house, but those creams and balms are a lot thicker and are probably more helpful. Good luck :)

Okay, before I go any further, here is my disclosure: I work for the company.

Having said that, when I worked in the call Centre, the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream was one of the few products that I used to get GOOD calls about. People said it really helped with the cold Canadian winters. I tried it, and it did help, but it was also kinda greasy. I like the Aveeno Hand Cream much better (we make that too!)

They are on the expensive side, so I would suggest if you want to try it, call the company and see if they give out coupons. I know we do here in Canada, but they may not in the US.

I hope you feel better. When I first came to Edmonton, my skin would literally peel away from my hands and bleed (gross I know). But I guess thats what I get from moving to a city thats only a few hours from the Arctic Circle!!!!

Hi, CT--THanks for tip. I've seen some kind of Burt's Bees stuff, but it looks like lip balm. Although I've tested negative for latex products, I try and avoid rubber gloves. My hands get these little blisters on them, then cracks. I've been using those non-latex Bandaids that are thick in the middle. I'm going to store later and try to look for it. Thanks. Whiz. :):):)

Hi, Sarah--You just made me think of something. I'm not sure if it's the soap I use, but I do use hand sanitizer a lot (cats), and I wonder if it's the alcohol content? Anyway, this skin crack thing---do you just paint this stuff on, and then apply a dressing, or just leave it on and open to air? How often do you put it on? Havent seen this, so I'll have to ask the pharmacist. You can get without prescription? Thanks. WHiz :)

Hi, Bex---I've heard of this stuff. Cant use the shampoo (Neutrogena), but I've tried soaps. I've heard of this heavy-duty cream, though. Can you put it on legs, etc? Ladies, I'm going to the store later, and stock up on all this stuff and patch test on me. At this point, I'm willing to audition as a lichen in the forest for "Lord of the Rings". Whiz.:)

Hi. I dont post very often but this post hit home. I also get cracked and bleeding skin on my hands. I use bag balm. It is really great stuff. Also I use Aveno hand lotion. I put the bag balm on at night. It is really greasy but works great. I use the Aveno during the day. It is expensive but sooooooooooo worth it. Leanne

You can use the cream on your legs, but it only comes in a small tube so it may be expensive to try all over. There is a Norwegian forlula body cream that has been around forever. I have had success with the aveeno daily moisturizer with my dry skin, but again, its a little more on the pricy side. I would suggest if you do buy something and it doesn't work or not what you want, just keep the receipt and call the company. I know in Canada if someone is not happy with their purchase, we offer them vouchers for free product or a refund. Not sure what they do in the US, but it should be similar, although don't tell them it was me who told you!!!!! :0

Hi leanne--bag Balm? Is that the same as the blue star stuff? Is it just called "Bag Balm?" Who makes it? Thanks. Whiz.

Well, ladies, it's off to the drugstore I go,with lists in hand. I'm going to try and put different things on different places, with a q-tip or something, and see what works. I am forever grateful for your suggestions. It is sooo embarrassing when people see the band-aids and ask what happened. Blame the cats? No, they havent been biting or clawing--what about soaps to wash hands with? (pump dispensers?) Whiz.
