Got $342 back from Dr's Office/hospital

Ok I'm still not sure what happened but I'm calling on Monday to find out, not that I'm complaining or anything. When I had ds in jan. 2005 I got my c-section bill from the Dr's office after insurance paid it was $342. So, I called them because it looked like they billed the insurance saying my Dr was out of network so 80/20 would apply--and I'd already met my deductible from staying in the hospital the two days before so I figured I didn't owe them anything. Well, first they agreed (insurance co and said they'd adjust the claim). About a week later the hospital calls and says "no, we talked to your insurance co and this is your co insurance" so I called the insurance co again myself and they said that was true. So, I paid the bill. Today I get a check back from the hospital and it's the full amount. I checked my online claims on the insurance website and it looks like the claim is/was InPr(in process I guess). I'm sure the website and insurance co are behind the hospital because I don't think they'd send me a check w/o being sure they were paid for what they were owed. Sorry I made the story WAY longer than it had to be, because I really just wanted to say that I'm $342 richer. Yippie. I think I'm buying myself a bicycle for Mother's Day. I've been wanting one and don't feel so guilty about buying it now. :)

Hello,
Congratulations on getting back some money from the doctor's office! Isn't it nice to receive those unexpected checks? If I received that kind of check, I'd put half of it toward debt and half toward something fun just for me, like the bicycle you mentioned. However, that's just me (I'm focused on my target debt) and you can certainly do something different!
Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke
