Well I told you all that I would keep you posted on the moving descion. Well we are moving from IN to NC on June 12th! We went down there over Easter and I had two job interviews and they went ok. My hubby has a job and can start work as soon as we get to NC. We bought a 3 bedroom 2 bath singlewide trailer with a 1/2 acre of land for $29,000. Our payments will only be like $310 a month. I figured we could double up on them and in a few years either build or move. I am really not stressing to much about the move even though it is a little scary. I will be getting severance pay from my work and insurance(our plant is closing) for about 3 months. So I should be able to find a job in that time frame and if I do I could take those extra paychecks and really snowball our payments. I know that our finances will be fine and I really do believe that we will be better off down in NC.

Congratulations! I now live in the Chicago area where I am originally from but I lived in NC for a couple of years in 1996-1997. We just went down there for a visit in April. You are going to LOVE it there. Everyone is very nice and the weather certainly beats what we have here in the midwest! I'm jealous.

Good luck with your move! And congratulations on your home purchase--I know you'll enjoy it, and you'll LOVE those low payments!!

Where in NC will you be? I'm in Charlotte, that's why I'm curious. If you'll be anywhere near here, I can help you get oriented, point you toward whatever resources you need, etc.

Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

Blessings,

Heather

Hi, BEM. Congrats on your move! Job interviews and a job waiting? How wonderful for you! I had to put on my glasses and read again when you said you'll have a 1/2 acre of land AND a huge trailer for that price? That would be a dream anywhere else. I fondly recall my year in Greensboro, NC (school), although parents thought it was too far away. Ah, the Southern charm---fabulous food, historical sites, nearby beaches, slower pace, reasonable cost of living. Lots of biotechs are nearby also. What cemented your decision? Are you going to retire there also? Wishing you financial bliss! Fondly, and with a tinge of envy, Whiz.

Thanks for the offer. We will be living around the Lexington area. It is about a hour or so from Charlotte.

Whiz thanks for all the input. We had been comtemplating moving for almost a year. We currently rent and we have been house hunting. Houses are sooooo expensive up here! You are lucky to find anything half way decent with a little bit of land for $115,000. March 1st the company I work for annonced that is closing around June 1st. I am still currently working but whenever my last day is I will get a decent severance package. Then it just kind of snowballed from there. My hubby was talking to some friends while we were down there Easter and BAM he has a decent job. We got lucky and found that trailer and land for cheap! My friends down there are giving us like new fridge and stove. The trailer does need some work.. paint, etc. But DH and I are extremely handy in that area. I am sooo happy! We will be on the way to finally owning something. I know it is not much but at least it could be ours in a few years and it is a heck of a lot better than renting!!!! I think if all goes well I would like to retire there. I am only 25 and hopefully have a lot of good working years still in me. I absolutely love the beach! Hopefully once we get settled we could just take off for the weekend and relax and catch some rays!

Hi, BEM---Sounds like your dreams are coming true--some people are pulling up roots and moving to the south--the Research Triangle (biomed, scientific, etc.) is growing in that area as well, since the insurers are leaving hurricane-ravaged areas like Florida, etc. I never thought the midwest was expensive, although when we visited relatives last year, we were somewhat astounded by how much housing prices had risen. Of course, anything would be cheaper than CA. Also remember going to a side trip to Georgia and tasting those huge, huge peaches, and pecan pie. Be sure to share any recipes when you get settled. Fondly, the cooking Whiz.
