Hi ladies,
Get ready for a rambling vent that really may not make sense. I am just so concerned with what to do with my life at the moment, and its seems like trying to keep my options open is costing me a fortune, lol.
I started my summer practicum with a great office that supports the work of the government in the healthcare sector. The result is that I have seen more of what goes on in all fields of healthcare in the past two weeks, then I have in my life. I LOVE the job. The problem is now I am questioning whether or not I want to go back to my old company (which was always the plan) or do something else. On a whim, I decided to sign up to write the MCAT so I can apply to Medical school ($240.00) and by the books to study for the MCAT (65.00). Then my Advisor at school told me of a national public health conference being held in Victoria, British Columbia, and "STRONGLY" advised that I go. He is willing to reimburse the registration fee ($200.00 up front) but I am on my own for the plane ticket ($300.00) Luckily I have a friend who lives there and said I can stay with her, and food is covered in the conference fee.
Added to that I was invited to a meeting in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (tomorrow) to give a run down of what the office does to their Health region CEO's, but I had to cover half the cost of the flight (they budgeted so much for a flight, but since I was a late addition, the prices had gone up, and I really wanted to go - $250.00) At least this is a tax write off.
If you made it this far, thanks for listening (and I hope you enjoyed your brief Canadian geography lession, lol)
A very confused Bex

Hi Bex,
to me it doesn't sound so much like money spent on keeping oh-so-many option open (mayhaps even because suffering from a spell of indecisiveness), but like investments made into a career that is waiting for you. Obviously they think you are good at what you do - otherwise noone would have invited you to Saskatoon. Likewise, you can give yourself a well-earned pat on the shoulder, for being 'strongly advised' to attend this conference or that by a advisor usually means s/he sees you are going places. Metaphorically speaking, not only literally ;-)
Those MCAT fees suck, true. When do you have to decide whether you go back to your old company, get into medical school, or do something completely different (like probably sticking to what you do in your summer practicum, only as payed work, preferably...)?
Look at it from the bright side: You seem to have quite a few interesting things to choose from. Things you seem to like and are good at. That's a great thing, thought it is a gross process of making up one's mindd (... or so I'd always claim from my own experiences *g*)
Greetings, Jordis
P.S. ... and I even knew all those places you wrote about ;-)

If it were me I would go for it if i could afford to do so. This may well be the next step in career and you would never have known about it if you hadn't done this practicum.
Good luck with your decision
Love
Anne :O)
