Okay. How do I play the Grocery Game? I wanna play. Also...I really liked the tips in the thread that cheeky started but I need some more info.

When you buy whats on sale and then "deal with it" do you look over the sale adds and make a meal plan or go out and buy stuff and get home and work with it? Does it take a little bit to "bulk up" your stock to start seeing savings or would it be right away?

For those of you that are organic or children have food allergies what do you do to save money? My children are all lactose intolerant and my oldes can't have fruit or shell fish....the lactose is what really kills us.

Thanks!!

The Grocery Game is a specific website. You can go to the site (the obvious address!) and read about it. It makes it very easy because they match the store's sales with the available coupons to get the most savings possible. I've been an official member for less than a week and have seen a SIGNIFICANT (over 50%) reduction in my grocery bill. It will take a little bit of time to collect all of the coupons (I just started 2 weeks ago) so I can truly play "The Game" and build the stockpile. I expect it to just get better as I go.

I'll send you more info via email.

As for the lactose intolerance, I don't know specifically how it about it but I know the list on The Grocery Game included soy milk (do you use that?) last week. You could also look into buying coupons on Ebay?

I love The Grocery Game! I've been doing it since January (I read about it in the newspaper). I really have to watch my grocery bill because I feed 3 teenagers, so I have to be careful not to overspend. It has saved me about $150 per month. I started it in addition to making the commitment to only go to the grocery store once a week. For our family of 5 I spend about $500/month on food. I don't know if that's good or bad compared to other families, but I feel pretty good about it.

The Grocery Game does require a time commitment. Every Sunday I get out the newspaper and print the list and match the sales up to the coupons. It also requires somewhere to store the food. The whole idea behind the Grocery Game is that groceries go on sale in cycles, so you stock up when you can. This in turn saves on future grocery store trips. For instance, cereal has been on sale lately and everyone knows how expensive cereal is when it's not on sale. I have about 8 boxes in my pantry that I got for $1.00 each. Obviously I won't have to buy cereal for a while.

It really is awesome! My husband calls it my new hobby.
