So I'm 40 today

I'm happy and thrilled to be alive on this earth and waking up in good health (relatively speaking, as I have a killer cold at the moment). On the other hand, I really, really, wish I would have gotten my act together a little sooner than 7 weeks ago as far as getting out of debt goes. Better late than never.

This past weekend I got together with my 3 great girlfriends. I thought we were going out for a cheap dinner and a few drinks. We're all turning 40 this year - one of them 4 days after me. The other 2 are close together at the end of Aug/early Sept so we were kind of planning this as one of our "semi-annual we're 40" nights out this year. I went to the girl's house that we were meeting at (Barb), and it turns out that my brother had the whole night planned for us. He met us at her house to take my DD overnight. Anyway, he rented a limo. We didn't know where we were going, he handed my Barb an envelope with the address and instructions not to open it until we got there. Turns out it was a strip club. He had the cover charge in there for all of us, which also included wine/beer for 3 hours. More money on top of that, plus a ton of singles for us all to use at our discretion. LOL. The limo was picking us back up at 11:30 pm, and there was another envelope that we were to open when we got back in town. When we got back in town that envelope had another $50 or so in it to go out locally. Luckily we live close enough to several bars to walk. My DB is doing very well for himself financially, but still, I thought that was pretty incredible. It was something that the 4 of us girls could not have afforded to do on our own, as all of us are digging out of our respective debt holes.

My mother is out of town this week, so she mailed me a card. And in it, there was a check for $500. She called me at work this morning, and I asked her if she was insane, since this is WAY over our gift exchange guidelines. She was like "Shut up, you only turn 40 once. Start a fund for the house." And so, that is what I am going to do. Put that in a separate account for when I can afford to do all of the things to my house that need to be done. (It is an old house and needs quite a bit of work done.)

Anyway, I'm overwhelmed, in a good way for a change, and oh so grateful.

deciding to be happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, but that you had decided to look beyond the imp

You share your b-day with me and my mom and my son will turn 5 tomorrow. I too spent today dealing with medical issues. I've had a killer headache for over a month now and decided that today was my b-day and I was sick of it! Turns out that I have a sinus infection caused by allergies compounded by stress/tension headaches! Thank you very much to my husbands soon-to-be ex-partner!

At least we found out that we sold our house today. I have mixed feelings about it but at least it's one more thing off our list.

Have a great day! samey
