I am enjoying my evening/early morning...watching movies and going to cut coupons and read the rest of the newspaper............then I'll go to sleep....

I am so proud of myself! My air conditioner wasn't working...somehow it stopped shortly after I turned it on....then I took a nap, and I woke up just sick from the heat in the apartment. I visited with my SO and was enjoying the air conditioning in his apartment, BUT I was not looking forward to making a service call for mine in the morning.......Well, I took a good look at it when I got back home and figured out what the problem was.....a totally clogged filter! There are 2 filters on the unit, and I only change one...in fact, the management has never done a cleaning job on the second filter....I cleaned it out myself, and the cool air is blowing out stronger than ever. I think I may have saved myself some money running the air conditioner this summer now that I did this........ Loving the cool air!!!!!! If you can, check all the filters on your air conditioning units so you will get the most out of your air conditioning this summer.....and you won't be overpaying for it on your electric bills.

I did take a trip out and bought a blouse for my interview. I also stopped at Kmart and bought an AWESOME straw hat($6 reduced from $9) to keep the sun off my head and face this summer. I was amazed that I had to sit in the car for a few minutes to decide where to go shopping for the blouse....The outlet mall I really wanted to go to would have cost 3 gallons of gasoline = $9. (And no guarantee I would have found the right blouse) If I stayed local, it would be One gallon = $3. I decided to stay local, but the money for gas DID MATTER. I have no plans to travel for tomorrow except for a 10 mile trip to have a resume reprinted for my interview.

Well, I am resigned to the fact that I am going to be broke for a while........probably the whole summer. I think I can still have a good summer!

Check those air conditioners!..........Littlesbigs

Becky-

Now I am all excited hoping I get a credit from NICOR too...How do you know it is 2 month cycle time? I always screw that up and end up late or underpaying because they bill weird. When does it end? I wish they would 2 month cycle winter...that is our super cheap time.

THanks!

Loca

I did find this article, that talks about a $100/account credit -- the problem is it talks about People's Energy and doesn't mention NICOR at all, so I have no idea why we got the credit but it probably has to do with this.

Hello,

Just an FYI on LIHEAP:

For many Illinois households, energy costs place a severe and continuing stress on the family's budget. In some instances, the household is forced to make painful decisions regarding which bills to pay and which necessities to survive without. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is designed to help eligible low-income households pay for winter energy services.

LIHEAP is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the state of Illinois. Energy assistance is provided by local community action agencies or not-for-profit agencies throughout the state. You may contact the agency provider in your area to apply for assistance.

LIHEAP will provide a one-time benefit to eligible households to be used for energy bills. The amount of the benefit is determined by income, household size, fuel type and geographic location. An overdue bill or cut-off notice is not required. You do not have to own your home or pay energy bills directly to be eligible for assistance. Your source of fuel does not have to be natural gas or electricity in order to receive assistance.

Emergency assistance may be available if your household is disconnected from an energy source needed for heating and/or a delivered-fuel supplier has refused to deliver, and the tank contains 10% or less.

Assistance for reconnection will only be provided to households that have made a good faith effort to maintain their energy services, or can that pay a portion of the amount owed for reconnection.

Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke

I understand the low energy assistance part -- we apply for that but that credit has long been used up during the winter months.
