I'm at my wits end!

Oh I can't tell you how stressed I am! It's just one thing after the other!

I'll start with Dh's work being slow so his checks have been less lately. We need to come up with a chunk of money for our downpayment by the end of June, and I just don't have it floating around right now!

I have to get an ultrasound for an ovarian cyst (which will probably go away on it's own) and realized that since his work got a new health plan- I'll have to pay $100 out of pocket.(Not to mention, I found out where I have to put that wand- yikes!)

My dh got a new cell phone the other day because his old contract was up- that cost $100 plus a $50 rebate. But that's $50 less in our savings! It's a family plan- he insists we'll save money on our 2 phones---yeah right.

My daughter's Bday pool party is this weekend at her grandma's~~~ I need to buy prizes, chips, drinks, balloons, and pizza for the girls. I'm ticked off because DH's stepdad invited a bunch of his relatives too!! I know it's at his house, but we never invite them to our kid's bdays. It was supposed to be just a kid's party~ now I have to order enough pizza for 10 more people!!! Ughh!!!!!!! I was going to order a cake, but would it be tacky to make cupcakes and just put a mini umbrella on each one? (her theme is luau)It would be cheaper.

And today my poor golden retriever is sick. He has a lump in his neck which is seeping and smells awful!! DH is taking him to the vet today. I think it's an infection. He's miserable and won't eat. We had him at camp all weekend, so anything could have caused it. Of course he's our baby but that will be more money gone.

This is the last month I have to save so vigorously~ and Murphey's Law hit hard....I wish it waited another month!! Nicki

Hello Nicki,

I know it seems like everything is hitting at once. Take a BIG BREATH, hold it for 10 slow seconds, then let it out. Repeat!

I've had ultrasounds for ovarian cysts before so I understand your nervousness about the wand. My ovarian cysts did not go away on their own and required surgery (endometriomas) so the ultrasound is considered necessary to diagnose the type of cyst. The technicians use the wand gently and the test itself is pretty quick, so don't worry too much about that part of it!

Did your DH just purchase a new cell phone and bring it home to show off without mentioning it to you after the fact? =(

to the cell phone...could you cut out your home phone to save $$? We went to a very basic plan that we can only receive calls with for $12 but the kids could call 911 if they needed to.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE cupcakes at parties. We never do cake anymore. Sometimes we decorate sugar cookies and the bday girl puts her candles in her decorated cookie. I just order cupcakes at jewel and it is CHEAP. They will do whatever color/decorations you want. Also-if we get pizza we usually go to a local grocery store that makes them cheap or Sams club will cook them for you and it is cheap. You have to pick them up but one of the adults can manage that....we usually get pizzas for 5-8 bucks.

Let me know if you need cheap girl party suggestions...I am full of them!

Hang in there. It always seems like it all comes at once. For the party, do you have a dollar store nearby? I'd bet you could load up on great prizes there fairly cheap. You can usually get cellophane 10 bags/$1 for making your party favors as well. How about a big watermelon (cheap) to add to the menu?
Good luck,
Pam

Hi, Nikki--Regarding the BD party---can you make your own pizza? MIL used to make pizza all the time (from scratch or semi-homemade)---Ragu Pizza Quik, toppings, etc. There was an article I think in Woman's World about cupcakes and decorating awhile back----everyone could make their own, etc. How about inexpensive lei's at a party store with those parasol things? Or, a watermelon "boat" with cut-up pineapple, melon balls, etc--easy and not expensive. Or maybe one of those huge subs (6 foot, 12 foot) at a Subway--that would be filling, too. Whiz.

Thanks for all of the input! I love that idea with the coconut for the cupcakes!! DH wants a "real" cake, but dd says cupcakes are good and it's her party!

Yea, I knew about the cell phone~ but wanted him to wait until next month. But being a man, he had already cancelled his old one. I mentioned dropping landline when we move, but he's not sure because of cell batteries going dead, emergencies, etc.... He's such a pain. I'll try again though.

I bought leis, blow up palm tree, chinese lanterns, little hula girls, inflatable limbo stick and some other cute stuff at a local party store for pretty cheap. DH's mom has a tiki skirt to go around her patio umbrella and a palm tree drink tub. Some of the games are musical beach towels, hula contest, pinata, pass the coconut. It will be cute! I don't think I'd be up to making that many pizzas myself and at someone elses house. I'll look for some specials at our local pizza places. Hopefully dh's parents will pitch in since they invited so many people. I plan on going to the Dollar Tree for prizes.

My baby golden had to stay overnite at the vet :( He got a staff infection (hot spot) on his neck and it traveled all around his neck and to his chest. (In less than 24 hours!) THe vet said he's seen it cover an entire dog in 24 hours! They had to put him under, shave the infected area and give him penicillin. I'm supposed to get him today. Poor baby.
I'm sure the bill won't be under $500.

Oh and the cyst was found through an annual exam. I had been feeling sore there lately too. I was told I have to insert the wand myself~~ oh joy.

Thanks~ Nicki

That ole Murphy is such a troublemaker. I hope all goes well at the gyno and the vet.

I think cupcakes with umbrellas would be darling, and probably taste better than a bought cake as well. You could do colored cream cheese frosting with sprinkles for very little money. Instead of more expensive pizza, maybe you could do a tray of sandwiches to add to the pizza menu, might be more work, but maybe less $$. I should think that since dh's stepdad invited the extra bodies, he would be willing to chip in some $$ for the extra food--10 is a lot. But unless there's a great relationship there, I'd hold off on asking. I should think it would be automatically offered, but not necessarily.

Hope you've got coupons for the pizza place! And I suggest you make big pitchers of lemonade instead of buying individual cans of soda and drinks. Pool parties = thirst!

Hope things calm down for you.
