Tiny paychecks

This week's paycheck will only have 3 days on it (DH had Thurs & Fri off), next week's check will only have 4 days because of Memorial Day.

And if that weren't bad enough, instead of having one week off in July, we were just informed that they will have TWO weeks off.

Hi, Aravis--I can relate to the summer slump. People are on vacation, etc. Anyway, can your DH "cash in" some vacation time? Offer to trade or work for someone who is going away? (different shifts, etc.). For those weeks in July, is the department just shutting down and no one working? I've seen it lately in the dept I'm in---flexing time, going home early, etc. On the food thing---perfect time to eat light and save $$$ during hot weather--fruit plates, salads, grilling chicken, etc. Hang in there. WHiz.

Sorry about the bump in the road..i know how frustrating it is. because of our move, two of my checks were tiny, and my dh won't even get a paycheck for another couple weeks. One thing I can say though that has helped has been already being in the mode of snowballing, so when these things come up, we just temporarily pay less towards our bills. It still sucks, though. I hope whne you crunch the numbers it turns out to be not so bad!

About your toy business....have you tried to get your catalogs or brochures for the toys in front of the right people? Maybe you could go around to daycare centers, pediatrician's offices, park districts and that type of thing and ask them if you can leave some of your brochures there. Just a thought.

Can you maybe create a 1-page color flyer highlighting a couple of the items and distribute that instead?

Hang in there~ I'll be hanging right along with you! Hope your business picks up! Parents are always buying toys. Yea- there's vacation time on my dh's check too, plus lower hours due to a slow down. Hot dogs are cheap..... Nicki

"And since I've only made a few dollars so far (since I don't do "toy parties") it might not make sense to spend money and possibly not make any money."

Here is an idea. Ask the daycare centers not only if they will put out your flyers in the sign-in area, but can you do a display if there is room? I used to have a child in Children's World and there were all kinds of items on a weekly basis. Sometimes books, sometimes picture products (keychains, frames, etc.) with information how to order. And I know that I was not the only one that bought...

Oh, Aravis, I know how frustrating it is when the money just isn't there! With my dh's continuing "underemployment" we never know if it will be or not (June looks especially dismal here), so I feel your pain!

But it sounds like you have a good plan for cheap meals, etc. (thanks for the reminder about those!) and I hope you can get some of those Discovery sales you're after!
