What do you refuse to spend money on?
| Fri, 06-02-2006 - 2:29pm |
Hi all,
Just thought it would be interesting to know what things you refuse to spend money on that everyone else around you doesn't think twice about buying? For me, I never had a manicure and pedicure in my life except for once before my wedding day. I just can't make myself spend that much on nails. Another one would be that I refuse to pay full price for textbooks when I can usually get them half price online. Please share :)

Great post!
I don't buy magazines and Monday - Friday I won't buy coffee because there is free coffee at work. I don't drink soda and I truly cannot remember the last time I bought any aside from when I felt sick last month. I've only had a manicure for the prom 12 years ago, I've never had a pedicure and I've never had a massage! I don't highlight or dye my hair, although I would like to! I rarely rent movies and I don't do on demand. I don't buy cds either - I listen to the radio. I don't buy at Barnes & Noble unless super cheap ($3.00 or less) and we share books at work.
I do pay for a gym membership for $19.99 and unlimited Tai Chi and Kung Fu classes for $75 a month. The benefits for me far outweigh the cost and it also services as my "entertainment" since I am too busy to go out, rent movies, etc. Thats $3.13 dollars/day and I save that in the no bought coffee rule and being frugal at lunch.
I still do drink the coffee - just at work though! And it took me until 30 to really settle down my spending habits!! Great post though - it makes me think that progress is finally being made when I look back on the last year. :) I used to snowboard alot more and horseback ride but both are very pricey. I'm trying to live simply...the key word is trying! But you should see how boring my lunches are!
I am spluring on dinner tonight though - financially and health wise. Going for wine and dessert even! Gotta live it up every once in a while, right?
And my lunches are just as boring, I usually bring a sandwich (turkey and cheese) and a diet coke, and I only buy lunch once a week. I make coffee at home to go, and that usually lasts me through the day. Occasional latte (like once in two weeks) is usually acceptable. Oh, and I finally got my hair done professionally. I kept skrewing it up. After my 4 yr. old said "mom, I really like your hair, it's orange!", I decided that I had enough :))

Me: I agree on the garbage bags. I also won't buy: premade waffles, fast food, meat that is not on sale, expensive paper towels, dish cloths, and lottery tickets.
I knit my own dish cloths. I like them, and they're easy to wash and reuse. Or I can quickly knit up a new one, and the old one becomes a rag.
DH: ever since we've moved in together, he's refused to buy cookies. He says they're a waste of money, since I can make better cookies. The only reason I put up with this is because he makes waffles for me (yummm), but my favourite kind of cookies is Peak Freans. He also won't buy cereal that is not on sale. Not even his own favourite kind of cereal.
Hello,
I *wish* we didn't have to buy garbage bags. Our city trash collection requires that we use a large 75 gallon trash can and all trash has to be bagged up, or the trash is not collected and we are fined. *bleh* I frequently use one large very
