Hugs! I have been there and you are smart to go in for your exams, I hope you go every year. I had high grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesions and had to have a biopsy and LEEP procedure done. Honestly, it was not a big deal and I have since had normal paps. Thankfully cancer of the cervix is such a slow growing type of cancer that if you go in for your exams regularly anything should be able to be caught long before it develops into cancer. You can email me through my profile if you want to talk more about it. I'd be happy to listen and offer what I can from my experience. Chin up sweetie, I am sure everything will be fine. I know how you are feeling right now though! :)

I've been scouring the Internet for information, and I am really confused.

I've had that condition twice, so I totally sympathize with you. I strongly advise do not let them perform a colposcopy(the biopsy) on you unless you are under general anesthesia. The first time I had the condition I let my doctor do the procedure in his office, The pain was so intense, I literally thought I was going to die. I've given birth 3 times naturally, and I have a very high pain tollerence threshold, but that was worse than having my 3 kids combined. 12 years later the same condition comes back again, I strongly insisted to have the biopsy and freeze procedure at the same time in the hospital under general anesthesia. He balked, the insurance balked, I said if I can't have it that way, I'd rather die then go through that agonizing pain again. He got the insurance to approve it and thank God they did, as it was pretty bad and I woke up in a lot of pain in the hosp after it was over.
I won't agree to any office procedures under local, it dosen't work for me and you don't know when they start working on you, what they are going to find.
Thank God they find these Cancers at such an early stage, Cervical cancer has a 99% cure rate if found early and thanks to Pap Smears they find them super early. You wil have to have lots of them in the future. I go every 6 months now.

God Bless, You will be just fine.

Most PAP test today screen for HPV, I've been negative thus far. I would call and ask your
Doctor if your PAP screened for it. If not, ask to get tested for it. If you have it, you need to be treated for it.

It is caused by HPV and if taken care of properly, you shouldn't ever have a problem with it. There is a lot of good information and a great message board here on iVillage and another great one on WebMD. As I said though, I am happy to answer any questions that you may have. What is your Drs. next step? I know it isn't a good time for this, there is NEVER a good time for it! :( Keep your chin up.

Well that's a good thing then, if they aren't jumping in to do a biopsy or any other procedure, they must feel that maybe something else is giving you the abnormalities in this pap. I have had numerous abnormal paps and only twice have they ever done any further testing. I hope that puts your mind at ease some. Glad I could be here for you, anytime you have questions, please feel free to ask! ;) It's nice that we can be here for eachother for all kinds of things that make us worry. Chin up and keep a positive attitude.

Aravis, (((HUGS)))!!!!!

This type of stuff is always so scary, but as the other ladies said, very treatable. Good for you for taking care of yourself so you can keep on top of it.

Keeping you in my thoughts. Don't go overboard with the internet stuff you may just make yourself worry unneccessarily. If you still have questions call your doctor and talk to the nurse. I haven't been through this but have a couple friends that have had LEEPS and Colopscopy I think it is. I think your dr. is doing the right thing from the friends I've talked to it makes sense to wait about 3 months and re-test in case it was just a bad PAP. Then if it is still abnormal I would think further testing would be warrented at that point.

Just sending you some positive energy and hoping you feel better soon. I know this stuff is scary. I freak out every time I find a milk gland somewhere in my breast that I don't remember being in that exact location the last time I checked, so I can definitely see how scary an abnormal pap would be.

I'm really grateful you posted. Sometimes doctors forget to tell us when the scary stuff is really scary and when it's really very treatable and not-so-scary. So EVERYTHING seems scary. But it sounds, from the responses you've gotten, that this is one of those not-so-dangerous things, and I'm relieved to hear it.

Anyway, take good care of yourself. I don't know if you've heard of or do Flylady, but this week's "pamper mission" is to give yourself a pedicure (actually, she suggests getting one done, but that's on my list of "things I refuse to pay for" lol). I've put it on my calendar for tomorrow night and I plan to take twenty minutes to take care of myself in that way. Care to join me? Sometimes, it's important to take care of ourselves in these small ways to help us feel better about the big stuff.

Meanwhile, I'll be holding you in the light. Many blessings,

Heather
