Sigh... going out of town again...

Well, we just got back on Monday from vacation with dh's parents, where we spent too much money, and with various expenses we're just really tight on money right now. I had vowed not to spend on anything except food (as cheaply as possible) and bills for one month.
Of course right after that, my brakes started squealing really, really loudly. I thought it was the car behind me, but it was me.
And now, dh's grandmother is in the hospital and not expected to last the night. So we're packing up to head down there again tomorrow morning. Gas money, groceries to stock dh's mom's pantry (she usually stocks up for us, but has admitted there is no food in the house, and I don't feel right mooching, so we'll stock it at least once while there--and of course I don't know how to get the good deals there, so I'll just be paying retail for everything), funeral expenses (when his grandfather died the grandchildren all pitched in and bought flowers--only $20 per grandchild, but still another expense). And paying the neighbor to watch the cat. And there's always other stuff that crops up. Sigh.
Of course, I'm glad to be able to do it. And I know the bigger issue is dealing with the grief and so on. It's just exhausting right now, and I just really want to be at home. I want my bed, I want my garden, I want my cat, I want my life and my routine. I really, really don't want to be going somewhere.
Okay, whine over. Back to getting ready. Back to packing food for the trip!
Thanks for listening,
Heather

Hello Heather,
Sorry to hear your grandmother isn't doing well. My husband found out that his grandfather had died in the middle of his birthday party a couple of years ago. The party shut down soon after that because we needed to pack for the trip. He notified his workplace in the morning that he would be taking bereavement leave for 3 days (and so did I) and off we went. I had been working on the party arrangements for awhile and was looking forward to cleaning up, sitting back and relaxing in our quiet house again. Nope, wasn't going to happen.
These things can't really be planned, but I understand that this is an expense you'd rather not have right now.
Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke
