HI, MB--I am proud of you! Resisting temptation at Mervyns' sale? That is hard to do! Where did you find that book? If it is about women and $$$, it should be interesting. Congrats on your victory--I know this is a great first step for you. Fondly, and with admiration, Whiz.

Hello Lara,

Way to go lady! You did really well and congratulations on having the discipline to go in, return the items you bought, get a credit to your card, and not shop for more stuff! Yay! Keep it up and you'll be debt free in no time!

When you have established an emergency fund of $1000 in the bank, you'll find that the "need" to keep the credit card around for emergencies becomes pretty moot. When you've paid off your credit cards and can expand your emergency fund to cover 3-6 months worth of expenses, there won't be a need for that single card at all!

Anyway, great job on the partial plastectomy (cutting up those plastic cards)! See, you CAN do it!

Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke

Well done you!!! If you can manage to cut up those cards it will really help you. My son enjoyed doing this for me last christmas and it has really helped me. I have more than half paid off my target card by snowflaking and the temptation to use it is gone, as i can't use it! Also even with just a small emergency fund I haven't even needed to use them. I am actually thinking better about what i spend my money on and most things we just don't want. Good luck you are doing great!
Love

Hello Lara,

Isn't it funny how decluttering will curb your spending urges? I have been decluttering clothing for 3 YEARS and we purchase clothing very seldom, but I'm *STILL* finding old clothes that don't fit me, are torn, are completely worn out, that I hate and never wear, etc. I'm still donating a full sized box of clothing to AADD.org (who picks it up at my doorstep whenever I schedule it, woohoo) every month. A full box! I can't believe how empty our closet is starting to look at yet I'm finding boxes and bins of old clothing in our garage that are almost in tatters !

Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke

Just wanted to congratulate you for not being led down the 'unecessary spending' path. Well done for returning those items. It takes real guts to return things and not spend unnecessarily.

Feel proud of yourself. Some days it can be tough to be the one not spending, and only paying debt.
