what to do when there just isn't enough

our budget looks ok on paper, but it never works.
there is just never enough money.
Gas is the big killer right now, we used to get by on $20 a week, this past weekend it was almost $100 to fill everything.
It cost $15 just to fill our lawn mower!
I am just at a loss right now.
Not sure what to do.
I should start working part time in a couple weeks.

Hi Stacy,
Have you tracked your spending?

Stacy, if it looks OK on paper, but doesn't work...the paper isn't accurate.
I understnad what you mean. I remember that we could jsut stop and put 5 bucks in the gas tank and be good for a week...now its 20 bucks at a time. Too bad our pay hasnt incresed at the same time. We litterly are looking at having more bills than income right now...And technically we make more than what our bills are, but because we are behind we dont make double or triple our bills and thats what its going to take to get all up to date.
Just keep going, it will get better especially after you work part time, even if its just eough for gas..

Hi Stacy - I agree with Aravis - if the paper looks great, but it's not working, then the paper is wrong.
All my best,
Danni
Thanks everyone for all the suggestions.
I do work full time. The part time job that I hope to start in a week, for at least 20 hours a week will supplement.
I need to adjust my budget for gas.
My grocery budget is already down to $50 a week for a family of 4.
I have an ING to pay property taxes and house insurance which are due several times each year.
Car insurance we pay monthly.
DH and I ride to work together each day, its only 3 miles each way. We go home for lunch 19 out of 20 days each month. So a total of 20 miles each day. Then there is the lawn mower and the van.
I will look at my budget again tonight and try to work with it some more.
DH and I typically share $20 each week for pop and lottery tickets.
The other big killer is all the medical bills we have right now. We don't have any insurance of any type and my ds was injured at school several months ago. So we owe about $1000 to a variety of places and we are paying each of them $25 per month, so that is causing problems, as we just don't have the extra $25 for each of them.
On a good note, my boss said today that we are going to try to get the Medical Reimbursement plan done this week, and I will get money for all the bills we have so far this year! Which means I can pay all the doctors off!
Thanks for listening.
Stacy
Try to squeeze those medical payments into your PAPER budget.
Hello,
You mentioned that gas prices are causing problems with your budget and that you and DH are heading home for lunch 19-20 days a month. Have you considered packing a lunch for both of you so that you aren't spending extra money on gas to drive home?
Sincerely,
Lindsey Schocke

Stacy, how goes the revised budget?
