I walk a lot. I have a hard time motivating myself to exercise, unless I have some other reason-- walking to work, walking at lunch with a friend, walking to the farmer's market. Get some good walking shoes and get moving! Just remember, if it's 3 miles there, it's also 3 miles back. Yikes!
I walk pretty much everywhere I can. I have a two year old car and put on an average of 5000-6000 km a year on it (about 3500 miles) and most of that is going home a few times a year (which is a 5 hour drive away). I walked to and from the library with the dog yesterday which took about 45 minutes. It was a nice day and we both can use the exercise. I agree with PP. Get some decent shoes (flip flops do not constitute decent as I sadly learned) and get going! You'll be suprised how quickly your stamina rises and the lbs come off, lol. (When Kita was a puppy she couldn't walk very far without getting tired. By adding 3 15 minute walks a day to by schedule and changing nothing else I lost 7 lbs in a month!!!)
I used to work 3 miles from home, so I would try to walk there - I had grand visions of walking several times a week...but I ended up doing it several times per summer.

Hey Robyn,
I lost 30+ lbs with walking as my primary exercise.
All my best,

Hi Robyn,
I am able to walk to work from time to time.
Thanks so much, everybody, for your positive replies!!!
I will start doing it once I get some good shoes.
Advice...good shoes, carry a water bottle with you and watch the high heat.
Three miles there and three miles back is quite a bit to start.
It's okay to jump...you have wings!
To move forward...you have to stop looking back.
