I have a question related to this topic about assumptions people make about social class. I grew up in a "rich" area, but only because my parents rented from my grandparents. I had 4 siblings and my dad was the breadwinner. He was a janitor.
So, I have noticed I have trouble due to feeling as though I have to "hide" who I really am or people will not like me. Sad, I know. But I think some of it stems from having to hide who I was growing up.
Now, the real issue in the present is that I have a 6 year old little boy going to school in a wealthy district. We live in a mobile home on the "outskirts" of this more well-to-do school district. I do not like it, but it is what it is. I know for sure that my son's teacher last year (Kindergarten) knew where we lived based on our address as she made a comment (not negatively, but unnecessary imo).

I don't recall but I thought in an early post your husband told her how much he made.

Huge applause to your P.S. message, Carolyn.
