There are 2 kinds of debt: secured (your home, car, etc.) and unsecured debt (credit cards, medical bills, etc.).

Hello and welcome to the board.

Paying off the cc's in that amount of time comes down to determination, willingness to sell stuff you don't need, and sometimes getting out of one's comfort zone.

All my best,

In addition to what the others have said, in my experience, it is never a good idea to consolidate debts (regardless of whether you make unsecured debt a secured debt or not) unless you are able to cut up most of the cards, and change your spending pattern. If you don't get rid of the extra cards and change your spending, consolidations are just a recipe for more debt.

Thought I'm not an alcoholic I feel like its the "one day at a time" theory for me. I plug away one day at a time. Today I hope to spend NOTHING. Aside from the gas it took me to get to work I brought breakfast, lunch and dinner to work. I am going to my second job tonight and staying at work now until my second job starts (8 p.m.) I am going to read in the lunchroom until work tonight.

That feeling makes me proud. All I bought this weekend was eggs & milk. I was proud of that b/c for me to walk into a grocery store and NOT buy more than 2 items is huge. Huge. It can be done but its gonna take time and effort on the whole household.

A lot has to do with the income a person is dealing with.

I agree 100%!!! You have to make lifestyle changes and not just view it as paying off some money.

The way we did it was by increasing my income. I changed jobs and I now make 4x what I made four years ago when I began this. We were already living as cheaply as we could agree to do (I would have been more drastic but DH had his limits). The only way I could see to pay off dramatically large amounts of money was to *make* dramatically large amounts of money.

It's not an option for many people, but it shouldn't be discounted if it's a possibility for you.
