My New Attitude

Today is my payday. I used to be excited about payday because I would be thinking about the next thing that I want to buy, and because usually by the time payday came around I had no cash in my purse, so I was looking forward to being able to go to the bank to get a twenty so that I would have some pocket money.
But, since I have been concentrating on getting out of debt and building savings, I am excited because I have money left over since my last pay day, and because I can make some more payments. And instead of looking forward to getting out my twenty, I am challenging myself to see how long I can go without spending any extra money.
How has your attitude changed?

Congrats! Changing the attitude is often the hardest part. For so many years we (consumers) have it drilled into our heads that we "need" the latest and greatest and we "deserve" so many great things (regardless of whether we can pay for them!)
What I know is that I "need" the peace of mind that comes with saving for things I need and I deserve to be debt free and not have to worry about giving away my money in interest. I can't wait to be debt free!

What a great new attitude. I know if I go a day and spent $0 I am SO proud of myself. I think how great I did that I had a good day, good food and made it through my day spending nothing.
The hardest thing to change is your mindset. Like the other poster said - we are drilled into thinking we NEED this or deserve that even when we can't afford it. We have to change those thoughts!
I do this as well.
This what we do and you might want to this too. I have so much budgeted for a weeks living money if I have any money left since we live on pretty much on debt and credit card I put what is left at the end of the week before putting in the next weeks money into bill pay. Some time it goes to a bill and other times it goes into saving.
I give my husband 100.00 a month pocket money at the end of the month if anything is left in his pocket before he takes out the next months money I get him to give it to me and I put that in the fund we keep in the house for get away money.
Well that is how we do it.

I understand exactly what you are saying.
