Have you come across a tip lately or discovered a way to make something last or to save money?

I continually water down my laundry soap. It goes a lot further, my clothes still get plenty clean (maybe cleaner because there isn't likely to be much soap residue from watered down detergent), and it saves me money.

Another thing I do is use old underwear (old cotton panties--clean, of course) on my swiffer instead of buying swiffer cloths. I can't believe how expensive those things are, and they are actually made of plastic so they are an environmental nightmare. I can just wash the underwear and reuse them on the swiffer mop.

And at the risk of horrifying people out there, here's another use for old underwear. I'm taking care of a friend's cat right now and she demands a lot of attention. I used an unwanted pair of cotton thong underwear and tied it into three knots, and tied a string through the knotted up underwear. Now I have an approximately mouse-sized cat toy for free, which will help to keep her entertained.

Rest assured only the socially acceptable cleaning products and cat entertainment items are on public display if there is company over :))

Hi there, great ideas for saving! I especially like the ingenuity of RebeccaLouise ;) Way to live frugally!

As a college student, I am always looking for ways to save money. Of course, packing a lunch and snacks is a MUST. It's so surprising how much a savings bringing a thermos of coffee makes, rather than buying a cup for $2.

Two things I do that have not been mentioned yet:
- I live close to my work and school and other than visiting my boyfriend on the weekend, I almost never have to use my car. It saves $ on gas, and I get a discount on my car insurance too.
- I use freecyle. Instead of having to buy things I need, I can get them used for free!!! It's the best. I got a free drying clothes drying rack and outdoor fire pit. freecycle.org
