Looking for assistance

These are the facts:
My wife and I are 55 and 63.
We have no savings and we are living paycheck to paycheck. I do have a good job. My wife has MS, doing good, but unable to work. We were able to get out of our sub-prime mortgage 18 months ago, but now am renting and it is difficult to make ends meet with no mortgage deductions. I have been with Consumer Counseling for over two years. What I am asking is where can I go to get help? I am interested in good ideas. There is a long history of how a family can get into a mess as this. I am looking for help. Let me hear from you.

You do take all your medical deductions I am sure but are you taking your milage too back and forth to the doctors. The milage has went up this last year or so.

And I think you can take hired help for her too.

What kind of help were you thinking of?

Not sure what you are looking for so if you can be a bit more specific we might be better able to help. In the meantime, here are some questions to consider:

You've been in a DMP for a couple of years. Do you have a debt payoff date with them? Once that is paid off, will that give you some breathing room?

Have you checked it the MS Society for any resources they might have available for your family?

If there is a small (approx $1k or less), typically one time need that would make it a lot easier for you or your wife you might consider www.modestneeds.org and see if they can assist.

If you are willing and able to share financial details of income and expenses, we are often able to come up with very good suggestions about places to cut.

Would your wife be eligible for social security disability? If she is, that can be quite a process but would provide some income.

Many people get assistance with food from Angel Food Ministries:

Thanks for your message. My wife is currently going through the maze of the Social Security disability. It is slow. What I am really looking for is who/what kind of professional I can talk to about my situation. A financial planner wants you to invest. I can't. What are my choices? What have others experienced in going to someone for good advice? I am sure that there is good experience out there.

The modestneeds.com did not seem to fit. My salary is ~$85K per year. Before you jump to conclusions, I am still not making it day to day due to several issues including paying medical and car insurance for adult daughter. School loans. Consumer Credit. Back taxes (since I don't have a mortgage). I am looking at the total universe of people/resources I can tap into. All responses will be appreciated.
