I love Reader's Digest. The subscription is about $25 a year. I've found that if I ignore the subscription renewal notices, in about 3 months they send me an offer for $10 a year. Then I renew! I think this is the third year I've done that. My mother gives me her Good Housekeeping and Country Home when she's done, and I buy old Smithsonians and decorating magazines for 50 cents each from the sale rack at the public library. Mary Jo
One night when I was bored I subscribed to Yoga Journal. I don't read it. I look at some of the workout pictures, but right now it was a silly choice. I thought my mum would like it too but she doesn't look at it either.
I just got one of those "try a free issue" for a new Living magazine that is put out by Martha Stewart. But it is the same type of stuff as Yoga Journal (I bet they sold my info)...and by sending away for the free issue you're also supposed to get some free booklet that looked really interesting (and I'm supposed to get that whether I subscribe or not)...the offer also came with a lovely free tea bag and you bet I sent the card away, but I am very likely to write "cancel" on the invoice...
All my other magazines I get free from the library...and I don't often read them enough to justify buying them.
I get Lady Home Journal and recently got a great deal on Cosmo and Allure together for the full year for 19.99 a year, Since I am not working I love to read them cover to cover.
I do have a few but only because of the dreaded Middle School fundraiser.
It's a magazine fundraiser and I'm a nice mommy, last year Carolyn really wanted a particular prize, so it wasn't too bad -- I think 6 items or something like that.
I currently get several magazines each month. I still have a few months of a very long Parenting magazine subscription left. I subscribed to this when my first child was born 7 years ago, and kept renewing before I realized. . .wait a minute, I'm already renewed for two years! I have stopped renewing it, and will just let it end soon. I still read most of every issue, though. My youngest is 4.5. Last Christmas I got a subscription to Martha Stewart Living from my husband. It came with a free wall calendar, and we also sent a free gift subscription to my mom for Christmas. A good deal, but I won't renew. I read this every month, but I mostly just love the pictures of pretty things. Also at Christmastime last year I got a free subscription with a purchase I made on Amazon. I think it's called "Dominoe" it's a decorating-type magazine. I flip through it but don't really read it. Finally, I got a free subscription to Organic Gardening magazine by sending in the foil lids from the large Stonyfield Farm yogurt tubs. I am not a gardener, but I do enjoy reading the magazine and have learned a lot! They have articles about things like types of milk, and lawn care that I have really enjoyed.
Like someone else mentioned, if you wait long enough or look for deals, magazine subscriptions are practically given away these days. I think they count of people mindlessly renewing, like I used to do. Glad I wisened up ;)
When we were deep in debt, we went from about 8 subscriptions down to 3 and I'm reconsidering those right now.
We cut out: Country Home (which I do love, but enough's enough!), Country Living, National Geographic (they're too nice to get rid of, so then I have a whole other problem with storage),

I get Baby Talk magazine, which I don't think I pay for, and I also get Working Mother magazine which was for DD's school fundraiser.
I just finished up a subscription to American Bungalow.
All my best,
Danni
