This week, I had to order a very expensive bottle of wine for a client from an online site. While on the site, I noticed that they had a wine club that sends you 2 bottles of wine a month for $20. "Great," I thought, "I like wine, I certainly drink more than 2 bottles a month, they cost more than $10 each and I always drink the same wine, so this would be fun."
Just as I was about to sign up, a voice in my head said, "Hold on there, what about that goal of reducing the expenses you commit to each month?" It was like having the little devil and angel on my shoulders. ;)
I've been working on making sure that even if our expenses are high, they are not long-term commitments like loans, memberships, plans, subscriptions, etc. I want to be able to stop spending money at any time, because recurring payments just suck money out of your account without your even noticing it and keeps your expenses unnecessarily high.
I ordered the wine for my client *only* and got off the site as fast as I could. Just for good measure, when I got home, I threw away any catalogs that I thought might tempt me to spend money I don't need to.
I'm pretty sure that if I didn't continue to visit this message board, even though my debt is paid off, I would be much less conscious of avoiding dangerous situations like that!

Good job!! I know I have been more careful about picking and choosing when to spend money for eating/drinking out. I even got free lunch yesterday! WOOHOO!
Congratulations Kelly on realizing that this was something you didn't really need to add to your budget :)

Thank you for sharing!
It is great to hear accomplishments like these. We all have weak moments and it is great to hear how you overcame the temptation.
